Table of Contents

Don’t you love a clean kitchen table?  I know I do!  I thoroughly enjoy the 30 seconds that our kitchen table looks like this:

Just the fruit bowl and the wax warmer!

It usually looks a bit more like this:

When I began my linen closet organization which is still in progress, it looked like this (you can read the linen closet post here if you’d like):

One shelf empty (the apples and grapes were already on the table!)

This morning our contractor aka my husband is here and working in the kitchen.  It required emptying out two of my kitchen cabinets and so at the moment my kitchen table looks like this:

I have no idea why but now when I walk in my kitchen I find myself craving toast, wanting to bake something, and drink a couple dozen cups of coffee!

What do you keep on your kitchen table?  Also, do tell if you have secret for keeping it clean longer than 30 seconds at a time?   On a note slightly unrelated to this post, I foresee a rather extensive kitchen cabinet organizing project in my future.

I do not have a kitchen table, but if I did I know I wouldn’t be able to keep it clear for more than a second! Both Partner and I have the tendency to drop random things on any flat surface available… So I guess my best solution is to have as few flat surfaces as possible. Then I go and put things in their places. Partner… we’ll, he’s a lost case!

Right now my kitchen table is covered with plants and flowers I’ll be planting some time this afternoon (hopefully). Usually it’s covered in books (I homeschool). I try to clean it off every evening so we can eat dinner at the table as a family. If it doesn’t stop raining and I don’t get these flowers planted we may be eating in the living room 🙂

I hope you were able to plant your flowers! We had to eat in the living room earlier this week when the cabinets were still emptied all over the table. I was very glad to have my table back last night.

My kitchen table does get picked up and washed after each meal. I have picked up a few tricks along the way. For one thing, I have made very good friends with vinyl. In the past, I have purchased a couple yards of Naugahyde (looks like leather(ish), costs like plastic) and literally upholstered my table top with the stuff. Currently, I have a pretty fabric table cloth with a clear vinyl cover over it. This doesn’t work as well as my original upholstered solution, but it looks a little nicer.

I resolved to simply have a few areas of my home be in presentable condition most, if not all, of the time. The one room I like to keep that way is my front room. The room that any visitors would enter into. The kitchen and the bathroom are the two other rooms that I try to keep up. Mind you, I’m not talking about ‘clean-clean’. Just decent enough that I wouldn’t be completely embarrassed should someone see them. Needless to say, my bedrooms and basement are a wreck! 😉

My table looks just like yours! Usually I clear it once a day, and I try to do it early in the day so I can enjoy it before everyone comes in and drops everything there. I have various baskets and buckets around for those things but they still end up on the table. Since the dining room is the first room you see when you walk in, I do try to keep it decluttered for the most part, but it’s so tough!

Yes, the table stays amazingly clear while everyone is away at work and school. I do think there must be some sort of hidden magnetic fields around flat surfaces that pull the clutter in!

I’m torn with loving a clean kitchen table. I love the look of it, yes, but the lurking paper bag/box/container of the stuff that I tossed into it doesn’t make me smile 😉

My kitchen table did get cleared off yesterday evening in honor of Josie’s guest, but now there’s a copy paper box LID full of stuff that I don’t know what to do with, and then all of the ‘important’ papers are by the stove.
