A Basic Bunco Menu Plan

mpm-chalkboard

I don’t usually get really bad cases of “the Mondays” but today I’m struggling a bit. The boys started swim lessons this morning and we had to be there at 9a.m. which meant leaving the house slightly after 8:30a.m. and arriving back home about 10:30a.m. My whole morning routine is off this week and not that I had a huge one, I feel so out of sync today from the change. Of course, it might just be that someone stayed up too late and met the alarm clock with a bit of disdain. It could also be that we have one of those crazy, busy weeks ahead not including the swim lessons. It could also be that stuff from the garage sale is still lurking on my kitchen table, living room floor, and in our bedroom. Then again, it could be the 3 baskets of laundry lurking in the corner and the fact that I have no idea where the baseball shirt that J needs for tonight is hiding. All of it is contributing to make me a wee bit grouchy but I still wanted to put up my menu plan except I don’t really have one put together (yet) as I’m a bit overwhelmed this morning. I still wanted to come to the party though. Speaking of parties, I thought it would be fun to share (with some pictures!) the menu I ended up serving when I hosted Bunco last Tuesday. I hope you enjoy!

Main Course Dishes:

 Chicken Salad

I always cheat and use a rotisserie chicken!

A cheese and meat tray (sometimes the simple stuff is best!)

Everything looks pretty on a silver platter!

Served with these items

croissants and chips to complete the chicken salad and cheese/meat tray!

I also made this Southwestern Sausage Quiche which is going on the Easter brunch menu next year!

Simple Side Dishes:

Watermelon tray

I am always amazed to find out there are people out there who do not like watermelon.

I forgot to snap a picture of the veggie tray but you can go to your local grocery store produce section if you really want to see one!  I also made a cheese ball.

2 packages cream cheese + one package ranch dressing mix, roll in pecans or almonds. Easy!

Desserts:

Katie Lee’s Ballpark Brownies

Sweet & Salty. However, it turns out that I personally am a fan of the basic, unadorned brownie.

Key Lime Pie (from a box mix)

Next time I'll make a key lime pie from scratch but this wasn't bad.

Chocolate Chip Cookies (I always, always use the Nestle Toll House Recipe with only 1 cup of chocolate chips)

These chocolate chip cookies did not last!

 Bunco Table Snacks:

Chocolate Covered Pretzels

I prefer "real" chocolate to white chocolate pretzels but combined them in the bowl.

I think it may be a law that M&Ms be included as table snacks!

dark chocolate pretzel, and dark chocolate peanut flavors plus toffee peanuts and plain peanuts to complete the snacks.

Now about our ACTUAL menu for this week…SIGH, it is not very exciting or complete but we’re having:  ham steaks and sweet potatoes (tonight), spaghetti, pizza out (family birthday on Friday), and probably chicken of some sort on Wednesday (our ONE free night this week), plus I’ll probably do some sort of breakfast for dinner the other night.  A pretty humdrum week  with our food choices.  I’d rather reminisce about my Bunco menu (not that the boys or husband would have enjoyed it except for the cookies and I did make them some).  What is your go-to party type food?

I’m linking this post up to Menu Plan Monday over at Orgjunkie.  Go check it out if you need some ideas and inspiration!

Sure! Interesting, your description of why you hate watermelon pretty much matches my description of why I hate bananas so much.

It would be fine with me 🙂 This is the kind of food I love to plan and prepare. Unfortunately, it is not so much what my family loves to eat.
