Follow Through Friday, August 2

FollowThroughFriday1 I simply cannot believe it is the first Friday in August!  The boys start school in a week and half!  Where has their summer break gone?  I have no idea how we’re going to get back into the school routine around here but we do it every year I suppose.  That means that although I don’t want to put a back to school task on my list, I simply must.  I am going to try to at least add one fun task as well.  Am I the only one who has things they really enjoy doing but pushes those things to the back-burner a bit too often?  Here are my 3 items for today.

  1. Finish buying school supplies for the boys.  We were supposed to do this on Wednesday when I enrolled them in their schools.  However, neither child was very in to it.  We were also dealing with J being done as soon as he picked up the Lego set that he had been on a mission to buy.  He had been earning and saving his money for it.  Two hours later he had it completed.  It also didn’t help that Toys R Us was out of quite a few back to school items we needed to get.   He figured out he had enough money left with earning just a bit extra last night to buy one more small Hero Factory set and has been bugging me since 7a.m. to go to Target.  I’m not jumping with enthusiasm over here because it is the tax-free weekend so yes, we’ll save money on school supplies but it will come with the slight cost of crowds and a small piece of my sanity (I’m not sure how many pieces of sanity I have left!)

  2. Clutter, clutter everywhere!   I think every surface in our house is covered with stuff.   My goal is to clear off one surface in each room and maybe get rid of some clutter in the process or at the very least return some items to their proper homes.  I’m talking to you Lego Hero Factory guys as you stand on the desk watching me write this post.  Take your space shuttle parked on the printer and go home. The party is over!

This is actually the clean side of the desk!

There isn't even that much room in front of the television and it still collects clutter.

  3. A couple of years ago, I started doing family research over on ancestry.com and really surprised myself with how much I enjoyed it.  I even made contact with a few distant cousins from both sides of my family.  Then, life became super busy and I stopped.  I’ve started again in spurts but it’s been too long since I did any research.  I even owe a distant cousin an e-mail.  I also found more photos in the basement around garage sale time and need to upload them so my family can see.

Are you joining us today?   Do you ever make a point to put fun things on your to-do list?   Link up below or leave a comment and let us know what you’ll be up to today.

Those toys are tough critics aren’t they? You think they’d pitch in and put themselves away once in a while instead of standing there judging my housekeeping skills.

To do list? I keep it all in my mind. :-/
Can you imagine what would happen to me if I were you going to Target? I bet it wouldn’t be pretty! [wink]
I’m thinking that when it comes to summer we are so grateful that it’s here that we just enjoy it without thinking that it’s really just a flash of time. And then the end sneaks up on us. I know you guys get out earlier than we who live in the north do. But…going back in early August….ugh!
Hope your nail everything on your list with plenty of time for FUN!
    Blessings!

When I go to Target with my boys, they certainly keep me focused and from going off-course to browse. I’m used to school starting in August but this year seems a tad earlier than in the past. We’re getting a good block of Christmas break this year that we didn’t seem to have last year so I suppose it all evens out in the end. By the way, I try to keep track of everything in my mind as well.

Be warned that ancestry research can be highly addictive! I do wish I had started with more seriousness though when my parents and older relatives were still around to answer questions.

Well, the one thing about school supply lists is that they need to finished before school starts (although I think one year I didn’t get everything in time and my child survived with me taking in Kleenex boxes a couple weeks later) so there will be an end to that list very soon.
