Saturday Success Stories, August 17

SaturdaySuccesspic1

How did you do on your Follow Through Friday?  Did you stick to your list or did you have a day where everything went a little differently than you anticipated?  My day didn’t go exactly as planned but I still managed to tackle a few items on my list.

I did ONE load of laundry.  Yes, just one measly little load.  Instead of loving on my laundry, I tried to break things off with it.  Silly dirty clothes just won’t take no for an answer and stalk me everywhere I go.  Piles of socks in the living room, towels in the bathroom, and the rest of the dirty clothes are tumbling out of the laundry baskets in despair.   I will take care of it all this weekend since it is not responding to my silent treatment.

I rearranged the items on my list and decided to go to Hy-Vee early rather than putting it off and taking the chance all the deal merchandise would be gone.

Look I only bought the deals! Or maybe I only took a picture of the deals.

After returning from the store, I sat down to pay the bills and on a whim called our trash company to inquire about the price of curbside recycling as I’ve been quite jealous of my neighbor’s yellow lidded containers for some time now plus I have that problem with the recycling piling up until I finally run it up to the elementary school.  It seems quite strange to say that the trash company made my day but they did just that.  It would have only been an extra $6 a month to add it to our service.  That right there was enough for me to bring to the table as a discussion with my husband.  However, by adding the service, she was able to lower our trash bill substantially.  No discussion needed!  We are now signed up for trash and curb side recycling.  It was very refreshing to be handed a good deal as an existing customer for a change.   As if the trash company giving my Friday a terrific note wasn’t enough (I have low standards over here, folks), my husband ended up with the afternoon off and we were able to go out to lunch.   Going out to lunch with him always entails extra errands though.  So instead of other Follow Through Friday projects, we went and bought linoleum for an ongoing kitchen project.  The floor by the sink used to look like this:

The nasty rug we put down after realizing the wood in that part of the kitchen was beyond help.

The nasty rug we put down after realizing the wood in that part of the kitchen was beyond help and yes, it was also in need of cleaning.

We bought a roll of linoleum yesterday and put it down in the same area and now it looks like this:

Our new kitchen flooring in that area.

I should note that anytime I say we in a project of this nature, I mean my husband did it while I stood there asking stupid questions about moving appliances around to open our small kitchen up a bit more.   Turns out it is helpful to have someone who thinks in 3-D answer those questions.  I don’t know why we have to be bothered by such things as not being able to open the refrigerator doors to take food out-just because it would block other cabinets.  Ahem.  Anyway, speaking of refrigerators, I did manage to get it somewhat cleaned out and the trash can filled.

Watermelon is definitely on the menu for this weekend.

So while I didn’t get all the items on my list completed, other things that were long overdue did get completed so I’m absolutely calling this one a success story!   Did you have any successes or surprises on your Friday?  I’d love to hear about them!

The kitchen looks good! That’s awesome 🙂
No success here. I got 1 load of laundry in and changed the bedding on my bed then pretty much sat in one spot all day trying to nurse my back. When the kiddos got home I had them help change the laundry around, vacuum and take the trash out for me. I helped but I was pretty much a useless gimpy person. Oh and I started the dehydrator for rosemary LOL
You got a bunch done though even if it wasn’t according to plan! And time with hubby’s always throws things out of whack 🙂 Still sitting here very impressed about the new floor! :)You’ve got a very handy hubby!

Thanks! My husband is very handy since he does this type of work (walls though) for a living. The downside is that our house is always last on the list. I hope your back is feeling better today.

Have you thought about doing a divide and conquer approach for your laundry? My husband and I divide it up. First of all, we have a great laundry basket that has 3 bins to automatically sort the laundry, so no sorting. I don’t mind going the wash and dry part, then we can fold it together front of the TV and it’s his job to put it all away (because I HATE that part!). That makes it a lot less intimidating. And the kids – they do their OWN. They have since elementary school. I have to nag them and remind them all the way through it, but they do get it done or they just won’t have any clean clothes. Not that they’d care – they’re BOYS, but still. We usually manage to keep from drowning in the darn stuff that way.

I have to admit that my husband is actually pretty good about jumping in and helping out when the laundry gets out of control although we’ve never tried a divide and conquer approach like you suggest. I had intended to start my boys doing their own laundry this summer but somehow never got around to that. I may have to revisit that idea once our school routine gets established.

Thanks. It is only a temporary thing as well but it is so much nicer than the carpet! Glad to hear I’m not the only one lacking that skill 😉
