The Liebster Award, A Bright Spot

It has been one of those weeks around here.  Monday, we had a ticket debacle at the carnival (Is anything more annoying that a carnival selling tickets $5/4 or $10/8 and then making admission to the rides cost 5 tickets?  Nope, buying individual tickets wasn’t an option.).  Tuesday, I waited and waited at the DMV pretty much all day.  Yesterday was a double whammy with the grocery store sampling salmon (I’m sorry if you like it but that stuff STINKS while it is cooking) and my burning dinner to beyond edible (I opted to switch menu days around so lasagna is tonight).   Who knows what today (Thursday) will bring.

Last week, Felicia from Felicia’s Red Door Life awarded me the Liebster Award.  It’s not some pretty crystal award that could collect dust on a mantle but rather a blogger’s way of saying “Hey, I really do read and enjoy your blog!”    Thank you so much for noticing and nominating me.  It does mean a lot.

The award does, of course, come with some fun “rules” for acceptance and passing on the recognition to others.

1. Acknowledge the person who nominated them:

Thank you, Felicia!

2. Share 11 random facts about yourself:

  1. Lilly of the Valley are my favorite flowers (followed by yellow roses and geraniums)

  2. I’m not super scared of spiders and will usually relocate them outdoors unless they are in the bed or the shower or jump (then, all bets are off!).  Crickets, on the other hand, terrify me.

  3. Even though I was upset with my husband for buying it yesterday, I’m drinking a Dr. Pepper right now.

  4. I tried a stupid Pinterest idea last week that said a Crayon would burn for 30 minutes in an emergency.  I have NO idea how they managed to light a Crayon on fire.  I burnt myself (nothing serious) twice and managed to drip purple wax on the stove.

  5. I don’t like to go outside and into the yard barefoot because I stepped on a piece of shale that went into my foot when I was a kid and it wasn’t a pleasant experience.

  6. I had to Google what twerking meant last week.  I had no idea.  I think they called it Dirty Dancing back in the day and it wasn’t QUITE that explicit.  Whew, I’m glad we do not have cable television over here.

  7. I cannot watch scary movies.  They scare me!   Zombie movies for some reason don’t bother me as much so I did finally watch 28 Days Later when it was on last weekend.

  8. The overuse of the word “epic” really annoys me.  Everything cannot be “epic!”

  9. I feel like all I’ve managed to accomplish this week is laundry (after the last load comes out of the dryer in about 40 minutes)

  10. I like apples but I hate applesauce

  11. Spring and summer are my very favorite seasons.

3. Answer 11 Liebster questions given to them by the nominator:

  1. Milk, juice, or water for breakfast?   Water that has been strained through coffee grounds.  Then, maybe juice.

  2. What web browser do you use?  Yahoo (hangs head in shame) but I’m working on making the transition to Google (I like it a lot better!)

  3. Righty or lefty?  Lefty 🙂

  4. If you had to dye your hair and the only choices were green, red, purple or yellow (think bright type colors) which would you choose and why?   Red because it would go better with my eyes/skin tone, I think.  I also think it would call less attention since the only time I’d probably be dying my hair like that is if I were on the run from someone or something.

  5. Are you a pants or skirt type person?  I like skirts but they usually require special, pretty shoes and thinking about how to sit, worry on windy days, etc so I guess that makes me more a pants type person

  6. What is the one thing in life you have always wanted to do but have been to afraid to do? Do you think you will ever do it?   I don’t think I could narrow it down to one thing.  I try to do things that I’m scared to do once in a while.  Starting this blog was one of those things.  I’m still a bit scared to publicize it on a grand scale but I’ll get there eventually.

  7. Book vs Movie, which do you pick?  The book is always better than the movie.  Book.

  8. Who is your favorite villain?  Magneto from the X-Men series.

  9. Which side of the bed do you sleep on?  Right side.

  10. You are given $500,000 but are told you have to spend it but you can’t spend it on yourself of immediate family. What would you do with money?  Work as a secret Santa to give it all away in small and large amounts to random people on the street but I would want to do it all year-long and not just at Christmas time.

  11. What is your favorite vacation spot?    I like to try out new places all the time but our best family vacation was in Colorado so I’ll go with that for now.

4. Nominate 11 other bloggers who have under 200 followers (I have no idea how to tell how many followers you have so if you have more than 200 and some of you probably do, please play along if you would like 🙂 If you are reading and thinking you need a few more blogs to follow, go visit these places.

  3. If the Zombie Apocalypse actually did happen, would you go on the move or hunker down in your home and try to wait it out?

  6. What do you listen to while driving?

6. Notify the bloggers whom you have nominated. (Note: You cannot nominate the person who nominated you.)

If you have actually read to the bottom of this post (thank you!),  pick a question and answer it in the comments if you would, please.  I love hearing answers to these types of questions!

Some of these made me laugh. I would totally try burning a crayon and then hurt myself. My husband researched “twerking” last week, too. 😉 I am the same about scary movies, but 28 Days Later was fine for me, too.

Oh, so you and I are both the kind of people where those “do not try this at home” warnings apply? I really didn’t find 28 Days Later scary at all and was pleasantly surprised when Christopher Eccleston turned up in it (my favorite Dr. Who doctor) although I did not like his character at all-blah!

Yes! My husband sighs and says, “Kristy…” when he sees I’m about to try something like that… I have to re-watch 28 Days Later! I watched that before I ever watched the new Dr. Who. And I loved Christopher Eccleston as The Doctor too!

I don’t know if I could sit through that one again but I do remember that I had to dig out Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire after I found out David Tennant was in it after I’d started watching Dr. Who. Oh, and I also noticed that Christopher Eccleston is going to be in the new Thor movie! I was excited since we have that on our list to go see anyway.

Heartfelt thanks for nominating ritewhileucan.com Jean! Tickled pink! Now about those questions, I will give you a ‘sneak peak’ right here. right now.
    Middle name: sue
Favorite candy: do I have to limit it to one? starbursts and nibs. oh yeah!
Off I go to work on the rest. Stay tuned.
p.s. like your husband’s analogy of a ‘chain letter.’ I think I’m going to use that angle on my blog. 🙂

You are very welcome! I’m not sure I could narrow myself to one favorite candy either. I’m looking forward to reading your post.

Thank you and thanks for stopping by! We are debating going to cell phone only here but so far we’re holding out and on to our home phone. I hope you have a wonderful weekend as well 🙂

Very cool award. I guess I’ve been avoiding this post new things I don’t understand confuse and scare me so I try to ignore they are even there LOL I’m awful!

As far as your question: If you attend a potluck dinner, are you more likely to bring an appetizer, main course, or dessert?

Dessert… do you know why? Because if you put enough sugar in anything people will go, “That was AWESOME!”

That and peanut butter chocolate pudding pies are like the simplest thing on the planet to make so I can whip one up on short notice.
