Saturday Success Stories, November 16

SaturdaySuccesspic1 Happy Saturday!  Oh, how I wish I was still snoozing away!  However, between a little gray cat who kept waking me up just to say she loved me and a still over-excited 9-year-old who has Lego sets to build, I’m sitting here pretty much wide-awake although in serious need of coffee.  The party was a success and everyone seemed to enjoy the tacos, cake, and just hanging out.  Here’s how I did with the party tasks:

  1. We did have a cake although I will admit that I was cutting it kind of close on getting the thing assembled.  Next year, I think I’ll go back to trying to go the edible image route on cakes.   Here are a few pictures of the cake making and the final product along with a picture (of a picture) of what I was aiming to make.
This was the picture I was trying to somewhat create.

Stacking cake is not as easy or "fun" as it sounds.

The final result. I totally cheated and bought the Minecraft Zombie figure at the store because my time is valuable.

My observations on making that cake were that trees made from KitKats and Rice Krispie treats are hard to do!  I was surprised by how many kids were excited to have Jello with or instead of cake and ice cream.  I have Rice Krispies and cake left but no Jello!  The Rice Krispie part of the cake that looks different is because I was having issues with the ones I made being too crumbly so had my husband buy some pre-made ones when I sent him off to the store for green food coloring (I had blue but no yellow!).

  2. The house made it to presentable.  I’m glad I didn’t go over the top with cleaning it because really it is more of a mess now than it was before I started.  I still have lots of party clean-up to do around here.  I’m sure you’d much rather see the photos of the post-party mess, right?
I would hate to see this if I had not used paper plates!

I do love using tablecloths as they make clean up easier.

    Just a little trash.

  3. I did get the extra present in time.  Then, I may or may not have been back here wrapping presents while the rest of the guests were eating tacos (most of the taco stuff was prepared before the party although I was running slightly behind on things.).   I also forgot to give him a couple of smaller birthday presents!  Oh well, maybe I’m a bit ahead on Christmas now?  Then later, I came back here and threw together the favor bags (not much to do there really as I didn’t go all out:  candy coal (for once, I was excited to see that Christmas stuff out early), pop rocks, glow stick lights, Swedish red fish, and mini-fruit rollups were all I put in the bags.  I think that I should start just making any parties we have start 30 minutes later than I think they should.  So if I think we should start a party at 5:30, I will put 6:00 on the invitations to give myself a little extra prep time.

Today will hopefully be a quieter day around here. This is how J will be spending most of his day:

He loves his Lego stuff!

I would like to put taking a nap at the top of my list but first I need to feed my children (and nephew) breakfast of some sort  (hmm…maybe cake?), do some post-party cleanup as well as figure out why the dishwasher was leaking water during round one of the dishes last night (Why are their so many dishes if I used paper plates?), get the book fair volunteer spreadsheet completed, and do a bit of laundry.   It will be another busy day of doing things over here!  How did you do with your Follow Through Friday tasks?  Is today also another busy one for you?

Thanks! Putting toothpicks in KitKat candy bars without splitting them apart proved to be tricky as well as trying to then connect the rice crispy treats on top.

You know I actually thought about doing that. The whole time I was putting it together, I kept thinking…Pinterest FAIL. LOL. The party was a success though and that was all that mattered in the end.
