The Drawers of Our Life

drawer14 I had planned to do a drawer a day challenge so we could all work together to make all the drawers in our homes clean and clutter-free.  I still plan on cleaning out all the drawers in my home.  However, one drawer every day is not going to work over here.  I think that is why it took me so long to post this “challenge” that I’ve been talking about since back in October or maybe even (gulp) before that.

Cleaning out one drawer one day each week seemed like such a small thing in print (in computer type?) but the reality is that for me cleaning out one drawer a week is going to be an accomplishment.  I think you might see why after I share about the bedroom dresser drawer I cleaned out today.

I’m starting on my challenge with the drawers in our bedroom.  Today I started with my sock and underwear drawer so the pictures will be a bit limited (I’m not one for showing pictures of my underwear on-line.  I think this would be a very different type of blog with a very different type of readers if I were).

This is what my sock and underwear drawer looked like when I started:

The clothes on top of the dresser are because the drawers below are such a mess. I do need to get this dresser organized!

I took everything out of the drawer to start.  See here is what an empty drawer looks like:

I missed that little tag thing before I took the picture.

Then, I threw away old socks and underwear that were beyond the repair stage.  I kept a very small pile of white socks that were in nice enough shape to go into a donation bag.  I also threw away the following:

These are Christmas receipts from 2011 and 2012!

I figured I no longer needed Christmas receipts from 2 years ago.  I hid the receipts in my sock and underwear drawer because I knew no one else would be looking in there and then basically, forgot about them.  I suppose I can also register myself on the bad mom list because nestled under all those receipts is a collection of tooth fairy memorabilia that I thought would be better as just memories.

I was also fairly excited to find both of these:

My fuzzy house slippers that have rubber soles!

Once I cleared out all the trash and clutter, I actually had a bit of space in my drawer again.

The drawer now has a bit of space.

I am just a bit closer to having a clean, organized dresser than I was yesterday.  I plan to make Thursdays the day I share about my drawer cleaning and clearing progress.  Would anyone like to join me in cleaning out a drawer a week?   At least, please tell me I’m not the only one who has spaces long overdue in the cleaning department stashed with odd things.

I need to make a list like that although I have no March deadline 😉 I could use some of that nesting instinct but you can keep everything else that comes with it 🙂 I am sure you will be organized and ready for that new baby well before March.
