My Electric Menu Plan

mealplanmondayfruit My electric menu plan basically means we want our electric to stay on so I’m planning based on what we already have hiding in the fridge, freezer, and pantry.  Things aren’t really that dire but  a bunch of extra fees required by our state are were on the electric bill this month which means it feels like were paying for air conditioning and heat all at the same time.  Why do extra charges on anything always come due in either December, January, or February?  Well, enough of my whining and on to our dining!  Here’s what I’ve determined we’ll be eating based on digging in the fridge, freezer, and pantry:

MONDAY:  BLT’s and Corn Chowder (trying out a new recipe a friend shared with me)

TUESDAY:   Hamburgers, Pasta Salad.  I’m going to make my husband cook (I’ll make the pasta salad before I go into work assuming the preschool will be open) and live in denial by pretending it is summer.

WEDNESDAY:  Roasted Turkey and Sweet Potatoes.  Last year, I found a very old turkey in the deep freeze that I opted not to cook.  This one is not that old (It is from November) but I want to cook it before we end up with a repeat of that scenario.  I even have some pumpkin fudge in the freezer I can serve for dessert.  Happy Thanksgiving!

THURSDAY:  Chicken Strips, French Fries, dinner rolls, and salad  (request from G)

FRIDAY:  I’m torn between tacos and spaghetti.  It will most likely be one of those two exciting choices unless I decide to do something totally off the wall like make turkey pot pies.

SATURDAY:  OUT for my husband’s birthday.  He picked Chinese food so it worked out well that we didn’t have this last week (turns out J’s friend was not a fan so I just fed everyone frozen pizza instead).

I’m excited that I can make every single dinner on this menu plan without leaving my house!  I may have to make February my Frugal Menu plan month.  Maybe next week I’ll focus more  on clearing out the pantry as I am mainly clearing out the freezer a bit with this menu.  If the boys end up with snow days this week, I predict it will be a lot more cleared out by next Monday.  As usual, I’m linking my menu plan up over at Menu Plan Monday hosted by Laura over at I’m An Organizing Junkie.  Go check it out and just see if you can not be inspired to start menu planning if you aren’t already doing it!

Oh, I’m SO glad I popped over here – I love your blog already. A week of meals from what’s on hand in the house without having to shop – love it. Sometimes we do those out of necessity (like when those rotten extra charges show up or some stupid medical deductible has to be met in January before co-pay benefits kick in). But I’ve had such great success – and fun, to tell the truth – that I sometimes do them on purpose and call it “Clean Out the Kitchen Week.” The rules are I have to use only what I have and get creative so I use up the ends of things, etc.

Some of these meals are my favorites – BLTs I love always, pasta salad and burgers, tacos, spaghetti. Nice menu. I’m coming to your house!

Please, come on over! I like to have creative clean out the kitchen weeks also but I have to limit my cooking creativity a bit as my family tends to be extremely picky.

We’ve done pretty well on it with the exception of last night and the fact that a turkey takes a lot longer to thaw than I anticipated–we’ll probably have that meal tomorrow since we’re eating out tonight.
