Happy Homemaker Monday: Refreshing The Blog

Happy Monday!  Do you have the day off?  Preschool is closed today so I’m free.  Free to get things ready for the week ahead by doing laundry, cleaning the house, and going to the grocery store.  SIGH.

In the spirit of renewing and refreshing, I’ve spruced up the blog a bit.  What do you think of the new look?  I’m also trying to decide if I should keep up (publicly) with the planning and meal planning posts.

For today, I’m linking up with Sandra from Diary of a Stay at Home Mom for the Happy Homemaker Monday post and Laura from I’m An Organizing Junkie for Meal Plan Monday.  I decided to go ahead and put both things in one post today.

The Weather Outside:

Is anything but frightful.  It is absolutely delightful!  It is supposed to be 58 degrees today.

I’m sitting at the desktop typing this up with no extra sounds in this room.  My husband is playing Call of Duty in the living room (I can hear the game gunfire).  The boys and their cousin who is staying over are downstairs doing something.  Probably playing a different video game.

To-Do List Items for the week:

  1. Clean the house
  2. Go buy body wash at The Dollar Tree
  3. Laundry
  4. Work on the Blog
  5. Hem J’s Pants.

Menu Plan for the week:

Monday:  Thought about serving Chicken Ala King for the holiday but since I had a request from G to “get the stuff to make your chicken”, it will be chicken strips.  Not my recipe at all.

Tuesday:   Lasagna from a box.  Garlic toast and salad, too.  I have Bunco!

Wednesday:   Ribs, corn on the cob, and more salad.

Thursday:  Apple Sausage and Cabbage for us.  Hot Dogs for the boys.

Friday:  White Chicken Chili

Books and Television:

Just finished watching the entire series of Chuck on Netflix.  A friend suggested it to me and I loved it in the way where I was very sad to watch the last episode on Sunday.  I’m excited to watch The Goldbergs as well as The 100 on Wednesday night.  I was disappointed in the book, The One Hundred by Kass Morgan although I’ll still probably read the sequel but I do really like the television series.  I’m currently reading Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire.

Thoughts for the week:

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  (Psalm 51:10)

I just found this quote on Pinterest and it really struck me:  Old ways won’t open new doors.

So in addition to helping me out by telling me what you think of the new blog design and whether you like these types of planning posts, I’d also love to hear what is on your agenda this week?

Oh we watched Chuck when it was on and we too were so sad when it finally came to an end. We are currently watching the last few episodes of the Mentalist, as it is ending this season, and we are sad to see it ending too. We love the Goldbergs.

We have been crazy warm here too. We are usually in the 30’s but like you today will be in the 50’s. I hope you have a great week!

Thanks. I guess I can admit to you then that I cried yesterday during the final episode of Chuck. I was so glad my family wasn’t home to make fun of me for it. My husband likes the Mentalist. Hope you have a great week as well!

I just started reading your blog (came over from the Happy Homemaker post at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom) so I can’t comment on the old vs. new blog layout but I love your blog title! I enjoy reading the planning posts so I hope you continue them and I see you’re participating in the 31 Day Blog Challenge as I am so I’m off to read your posts now. Have a great week!

So, those weren’t your 31 Day Blog Challenge post titles at the bottom of the comment section, they were mine! I haven’t come across this before, a list of the commenter’s previous posts – sorry for the confusion. But, I do see that you have other 31 Day posts so it’s those that I’ll be reading. Oh dear, wrong morning not to have coffee!

You probably saw your posts listed on the comment-luv plugin. Totally understand about not having coffee…not sure I could not have my coffee.

Hi Jean! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I laughed about your Chicken Ala King recipe plans for today. I’ve never made that before and isn’t it just like our kids to put a kink in our best plans? Love your word of the year because it’s so different. Mine is JOY for 2015! Have a great week!

Thank you. Yes, the kids often put a kink in those plans don’t they? I’ve had to change mine yet again because we ended up out for lunch and half of us ordered chicken. Lasagna got bumped up to tonight. JOY is a great word as well. I may need to borrow it for one of my chapters!

It is simply amazing to be running around town in January without a coat! I am enjoying it because I know it is not going to last.

Truth be told I can’t say I’m 100% on board with the new design but it may be just because it’s new and it’ll take me a bit to get used to. Then again I’ve been told I like things way too busy. My cluttered live for my cluttered page design. LOL
I like your planning posts personally. It helps give me some inspiration to attacking the day and knowing I’m not the only one scrabbling around insanely at the whims of the family. 🙂

I really do appreciate the honest feedback. I feel like the page is less cluttered but it also seems to missing a bit of pizzazz now. Perhaps I’ll play around with it a bit more. I think I’m going to keep the planning the posts. Thanks!

I like the new layout. It looks uncluttered and fresh – something I don’t see on a daily basis looking around my home 😉 LOL

I like reading about your planning. It’s good to get thinking about that, even if the planning doesn’t take place for me in the beginning of the week. When I do read your post, usually days after you post them, at least it gets me thinking about what’s for dinner tonight 🙂

Thank you! Ha! Don’t worry, I don’t see it looking around my home either and this week with me working pretty much every day…the status is scary. Thankfully, my husband did help and keep us somewhat caught up on laundry and the kitchen in decent shape.
