Happy Homemaker Monday: A Work Week

The plan was work on this post plus get a few others scheduled today since I’m knew I was working on Tuesday and Wednesday plus I am now on “standby” for Thursday (I love how official that sounds…).  However, the phone rang bright and early, too early this morning and I ended up working all day today as well.

With that one phone call, it meant my week started with no plan in place.  I need to fix that right now.  Thank goodness Sandra from Diary of a Stay At Home Mom and Laura from        I’m An Organizing Junkie inspire me with their Monday link-up posts!

Our Weather

I’ll try to put this gently for any friends in the Northeast.  It’s beautiful here!  It is supposed to be sunny and in the high 60’s tomorrow.  In January.  In Missouri.  Sometime after Wednesday, the temperatures are supposed to drop off again but I’m going to savor every sunny, 60 degree second that we get.

Our family just finished dinner, I pretty much walked in the door and went straight to the kitchen to make dinner (Tacos to the rescue!) and am now sitting here doing this instead of cleaning up the mess. My feet hurt and I’m wondering what I’m going to do for tomorrow’s afternoon line time. I’m also thinking what a great day it was there today.  The kids were just wonderful!

To-Do List Items

  1. Work on the blog
  2. Hem J’s pants (oops, didn’t get around to it last week)
  3. Pay bills
  4. Clear another small area like I did for last Wednesday’s small project
  5. Buy reeds for G’s clarinet

Menu Plan for the Week:

I’ll just go ahead and state it that this menu is pretty basic since I’m going to be busy this week and probably not going to want to cook much.  We have a visitation (just found this out) to attend on Tuesday evening so I’m keeping that night super simple.  Simple is not always a bad thing and I did think last week as I was cooking our simple cabbage and sausage dinner that cabbage is rather pretty:

Okay, technically it is coleslaw mix with red peppers added but still pretty.

Okay, technically it is coleslaw mix with red peppers and onions added but still pretty.

MONDAY:  Taco salads except I’m the only one who had a taco salad, J had nachos, G had burritos, and my husband had some kind of re-fried bean/taco dip that he created himself.

TUESDAY:  Egg Rolls and Noodles from Hy-Vee or frozen pizza

WEDNESDAY:  Hamburgers and French Fries

THURSDAY:  Chicken Strips (carry over from last week)

FRIDAY:  Olive Garden to celebrate a family birthday

Books and Television:

I finished reading Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire last night.  I didn’t think it was as good as Wicked and found it rather hard to follow at times.  I’ll go ahead and read the last book in the trilogy,  A Lion Among Men,  since I already have it.   Probably not going to be watching much television this week although I did manage to catch the season finale of Resurrection last night.  It was just scary-good enough to give me bad dreams.  The one show I’ll try to catch is The 100.  If I have any Netflix time later in the week, I may go ahead and watch season two of Doomsday Preppers.

From the Camera:

I’m going to share an old picture because honestly, we just didn’t do much last week.  Yesterday we finally went to the new Ikea that opened up over in Kansas (more about that later) and my husband drove us through the plaza on the way.  They don’t turn off the plaza lights until mid-January so he was trying to do something nice.  Unfortunately, the lights were already off.  It’s still a gorgeous area if you have the slightest appreciation of architecture but I didn’t take any photos.  Here’s one from a time we did go see the lights:  Thanksgiving2012 027 Plaza Lights on Thanksgiving 2012

Thoughts for the Week:

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!  (Psalm 107:1)

Be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.  (Maya Angelou)

Blog posts and comment replies may be a bit slow this week as I’ll be spending the majority of it running around at preschool.  Now, I’m off to figure out a line time activity because I’ve learned very quickly that preschool line time is one place where you want to have a plan.  What are your plans for this week?

I think our weather is supposed to turn later this week as well. I’ll take the great weather while it is here though. Hope you have a great week as well!

Jean… I like the new look! It’s fresh!
Working with preschoolers… oh yes you need a plan and a back up plan a back back up plan!! I applaud you, girl!! Enjoy your warm temps. It sound wonderful when were in the 20’s. But… now complaints here. When the sun is shining and it’s not snowing… all is good! 🙂

    Have a blessed week, friend!

Thank you! I love working with the preschoolers and yes, things do change all the time with them. Keeps me on my toes 😉 I always love it when the sun is shining. Hope you have a wonderful week!

The coleslaw looks delicious! Yum! It is really dry and warm here, too. The coyotes are coming down from the hills looking for water. We were listening to them yip the other night – spooky!

Oh, that would be spooky. I have to admit as much as I am loving this weather that I know we need the moisture whether it be from snow or rain.

I feel the simple menu for this past week! I think it must be a crazy week for everyone.
I actually got off work and for the first time didn’t have any running to do… instead of being a responsible adult and working around the home I caught up on the last two episodes of The 100. No one else in the family watches it so it’s my little treat and I always get giddy when I see it come up in our Hulu queue.

I think so. Oh, I’m excited to know another person watching The 100! I’m the only one in my family watching it as well with the exception that my younger son will sometimes glance at it with me. Is Hulu like Netflix or did you watch the two most recent episodes? I still can’t get over how much better I like the television series than I did the book.

      1. Elizabeth

I never read the book that’s a rare bird if the TV Series is better!
I watched the two most recent episodes I’m completely current on the show. Hulu with some shows has only a contract to keep the 4 most recent and as a new one comes up the oldest one drops. Since I’ve been watching from day one I may get a couple episodes behind but never so long that I had an episode drop. Newest episode always comes out a day after it airs on TV.
I will have to make sure not to give any spoilers 😉

Oh no, I’m completely current as well which is why I was wondering. J got on me for laughing at the death when the mutated ape appeared… I wondered if I was the only one laughing at how absurd that show can be sometimes? At first, I thought maybe they had lifted the smoke monster from Lost. I also saw on the comments on their Facebook page where someone had a drinking game for every time a character said “my people” or the word “people” was used. Of course, I’ll still be watching all “my people” next Wednesday night because I really do like the show. 🙂

Hooray for IKEA! Fun store. We go about once a year, since it’s in Illinois. We were just there a couple of weekends ago. Yep, the cinnamon rolls are not too special once you get them home 🙁

The guy behind the counter told me the rolls were Pillsbury. I bought a container of Pillsbury this weekend, and they did NOT taste the same. Must have been mistaken, that boy Grrrr LOL

FWIW, the kitchen cleaning rags are super nice. 10 pack, few bucks, works great!

Our IKEA is in Meriam, KS which isn’t an awful drive from here but not one we’ll routinely make. Those cinnamon rolls aren’t Pillsbury unless they make them commercially for IKEA which I doubt. The Pillsbury Grands with the Cinnabon Buttercream frosting aren’t too bad though if you are really just craving cinnamon rolls. I’ll have to check into the rags next time I get out that way (hopefully, with friends who like the store rather than a bunch of boys 😉 )
