Five Senses Saturday

“It’s Saturday! It’s Saturday! YAY!

Those were J’s first words to his dad as he entered the living room this morning.  I agree!  It’s going to be a beautiful, sunny and warm day around here.  Perfect for cleaning the house.  SIGH.  At least, I can open the windows and air things out.

I also have a few errands to run so I’ll get to enjoy a bit of it while I’m out and about along with the other million or so people in the city.   Later,  I’ll be baking a chocolate cake for my husband’s birthday tomorrow.

Time to share how my week unfolded according to my five senses like I’m hoping to do on every Saturday with my new Five Senses Saturday posts.

My favorite sight of the week actually came from pictures on the camera that I didn’t take.  I grabbed my camera to take a final picture for Thursday’s macaroni and cheese post and was surprised to find this pictures on it:

This is what happens when I leave my camera next to the computer.

J later brought the camera to me to show me this close-up he had captured of artwork currently on the fridge:

A bit blurry but how could I not love this photo?

And of course, he took one of us his favorite model:

Our little gray cat.

Other things I saw this week were snow, clouds, sun, and lots and lots of MUD yesterday while I was at work.

I don’t know if it is a universal 4th grade thing but recorders came home late last week.  So I’ve been hearing lots of the “joyous” noise of J practicing on that.  I’m even doing listening to it in the background on this wonderful Saturday morning.

This delightful song gave way to another round of music appreciation (which he did not) with my teenager on Tuesday morning:

“It’s a big enough umbrella but it’s always me that ends up getting wet…”  Oh wait, back to my post.  Can you believe neither of the boys liked that song?  “Terrible” and “The music doesn’t match.”

This song was followed on the radio by Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off.  We did all agree that perhaps she slightly edged out The Police with her song.

I baked banana bread one night earlier in the week and the house smelled delightful while it was baking!

I also did one of those careful smells of the laundry at preschool yesterday (I was filling in for one of the teachers who helps with the laundry rotation) to make sure the basket contained clean laundry.  Thankfully, it smelled of laundry soap and bleach.  Whew!

Coffee.  Plain Folgers coffee with almond milk.  Warm liquid energy to help get through my busy week.

I also enjoyed a new flavor of Kind bar for my breakfast on work mornings…Mocha Almond.  Coffee, chocolate, and protein in the form of almonds all at the same time.

Warm soft play-doh at preschool yesterday.  Playing with play-doh is very soothing no matter how old you may be.

Warm and cold water as J and I tried to determine a way to determine if warm water did indeed sink.  Using red and blue food coloring in the water (my idea) didn’t exactly work.  It did make lovely purple water though.

A bit of frustration that my husband happened to be home on the two days I was off work this week.  It’s not that I don’t love him but I was really looking forward to spending some time alone.  Plus, I prefer to watch my Netflix shows without commentary.

Humbled when J was right about his math homework that we were all so sure he had wrong that his dad and I each bet him a dollar he was wrong.  I suppose he learned standing his ground was profitable (and not to listen to his parents when it came to math problems!).

Are you happy Saturday has finally arrived?  What kinds of things set off your senses this week?

I try to encourage the photography but I usually know when the pictures are being snapped. These were a complete surprise!

What a wonderful week you had this week.

    Mmm…. banana bread 🙂 YUM

I’m SO jealous you got to open windows and air out.

I really want to cuddle with your cat. Nothin’ smells better than warm snuggly cat 🙂

LOL on you and dh both being wrong on J’s homework 😉 Happens here enough as well.

Be more jealous of the fact that we were OUTSIDE with no coats on Sunday and let our kids wear shorts because it was that nice out there. I’ll send our cat your way about 4:30a.m. some day. Actually, she was sleeping there but she’s not much of a cuddle cat. She’s usually much too busy protecting us from squirrels or something.

It really is a way to see what captures their attention. I don’t really get the taking pictures of the television shows and computer games but it seems to be a popular past-time.
