Hello! Happy Homemaker Monday and Menu Plan

I’ve decided this is the week.  I’m getting back to writing and posting on this blog.  My break wasn’t scheduled and it wasn’t for any bad reason (well, I could have done without the nasty  virus and the cough that will not leave).

Life just got busy.  Sometimes it does that.  Sometimes you have to choose between blogging or being on time to work.  Sometimes a nap is more necessary than a blog post (scary but true).  However, I think I see things slowing down a bit (said very cautiously and in a whisper) and now it is time to get back to blogging.

I couldn’t think of a better place to start than with a Monday planning post to link over at Happy Homemaker Monday hosted by Sandra from Diary of a Stay At Home Mom as well as a menu plan (how I’ve missed and needed these!) to link at Menu Plan Monday hosted by Laura from I’m An Organizing Junkie.

The Weather This Week

Last week, it was so hot in our house at bedtime one night, I caved and turned on our a/c.  This morning it was so cold, I bumped on the heat for a few minutes.  My boys actually choose to wear long sleeves to school today.  I guess fall is finally here.   We’re supposed to have morning lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s all week with a chance of rain on Tuesday.

Weekly Menu

My menu plans have been fairly sporadic the past few weeks.  We’ve had quite a few “planned” meals out.  I shopped the pantry/freezer quite a bit.  Here’s my plan for this coming week:

MONDAY:  Spaghetti

TUESDAY:  Ham steaks and sweet potatoes

WEDNESDAY:  Pumpkin Waffles and Sausage (or French Toast…depends on my mood)

THURSDAY:  Ribs in the crock pot

FRIDAY:  Tacos or Out (depends on how the day goes)

Things That Make Me Happy

Having time to post on this blog, a snuggly kitty cat, mango green tea from Quick trip, my kids

To-Do List

We’ll see how much of this happens but here is the list for this week:

  1. Go to parent teacher conferences for G & J
  2. Go to the grocery store
  3. Clean the house & laundry (always)
  4. Take the Cat to the vet (I was going to do this a few weeks ago but she and I didn’t agree on the method of transportation.  Putting her in the carrier needs to be a team effort).
  5. Get out the fall clothes (probably need to buy some new pants for the boys)
  6. Pay bills
  7. Write and publish 2 more blog posts

On the Blog

At this point, I just want to get back into a bit of a posting routine.

Books, Movies, and Television

I re-read some of the Chronicles of Narnia series when I just needed a book to read because J wanted to read together.  Right now, I’m working my way through Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury.

One thing about feeling bad is it gives you a decent excuse to watch movies and television a bit.  Keep in mind this is a month’s worth of stuff I’ve watched (not a week).

Movies first:  I slept through a fair amount of Sharknado 2 but overall I really enjoyed it!  Gone Girl followed the book fairly well until the end…one line from the book made it and they left it out!  I love dumb science fiction movies but when your science fiction movie is so dumb it makes Sharknado 2 seem Oscar worthy, then you have a problem.  Jupiter Ascending hit that category.  G and I watched Maleficent together yesterday and both of us enjoyed it.

Television:  I caught up on some Netflix shows mainly Walking Dead as my teenager walked through the room rolling his eyes at me (you would think it would be the other way around but nope, I’m the one watching the stupid zombie show around here).  I watched the entire Heroes series and loved it (even with the plot holes and a couple of less than stellar seasons) and am now really enjoying watching Heroes Reborn.  G also managed to get me hooked on The Flash.  He loves Arrow but I can’t seem to get into that show.  My husband watched Longmire and something called Hand of God but I couldn’t get into either of those shows either.

I guess I could add the radio since it wasn’t on television for us (cable only):  Also listened to the Royals!

One thing I’ve really missed about keeping up with the blog is how intentional it makes me about taking photos.  Here are a few of my favorite random photos from my phone:

Looking Forward to This Week

Watching (or listening to it on the radio) the World Series (Go Royals!), the boys having a day off from school on Friday, a less busy (maybe) weekend, and Daylight Savings end on Sunday.  I’m ready to reclaim my hour of missing sleep!

Thoughts for the Week

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it (Proverbs 4: 23)

Have you been busy as well?  I do think that May, October, and December may be the busiest months of the year!  Hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

Hello for a Fellow Missourian (Go Royals!) We are also enjoying the Fall colors and weather and I’m working on getting back in the rhythm of posting my weekly menus. Ribs in the crockpot? I’ll have to give it a try – thank you for the suggestion! Hope you have a fabulous week, stopping by from Menu Plan Monday.

Thanks for stopping by and yes, Go Royals 🙂 Ribs in the crockpot turn out really well but I’d highly suggest a liner bag (I also usually have to cut them in half to make them fit). Hope you have a great week!

Thank you! Wow, I’m not sure I’d be able to get back into after almost a year. It does get easy to fill the time with other things but I did miss it.

Even though I hate being sick, I think it is sometimes our bodies way of telling us to slow down, and it’s nice to have that excuse to just do nothing, but not for too long, LOL. It also seems to take awhile to get back in the swing of things.

I’m looking forward to the extra hour too, but it seems to take me awhile to adjust to it. I have to say, I think I would much rather see the Royals win the World Series than the Mets.

With your kids off from school, you get a three day weekend, AND an extra hour!! Bonus!! Enjoy!!

I think you are right but I could do without being sick (couldn’t we all) LOL. Actually, it turns out my kids have a 4 day weekend so they are happy (me, too as I can sleep in!).

Thank you. I have never been to KY but would like to see it someday, I hear it is a beautiful state as well 🙂

So nice to have you back Jean!! I know what you mean about life getting busy and I think it’s great that you took a break when you needed one.

I love your menu this week (some similarities to mine!) and I love your photos!! Those clouds are gorgeous.

I loved the Narnia books – and for Fall I’m in the mood to re-read some Anne of Green Gables books. Lol Whatever works, right?
Blessings to you my Dear and welcome back. xoxo
