We woke up to rainy weather so I knew I’d be posting a Happy Homemaker Monday post today. I actually worked yesterday morning and the afternoon got away from me.
It was really nice waking up to a thunderstorm this morning and not having to leave the house (I so have to work later this afternoon and evening). J has some new game on this computer where he creates airplanes and jets so I had to wait my turn to hop on here. I really didn’t mind though.
The Weather Outside
HUMID ... there is actually a chance of rain and/or severe weather every day this week. Highs are mostly supposed to be in the mid 80’s but the Midwestern saying “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity” is accurate. I predict our a/c will be running at some point this week.
On the breakfast plate
I had coffee (of course!) and peanut butter granola with almond milk. J is having Cheez-Its. I figure it is probably a better breakfast than most the cereal choices. G is still asleep.
As I look out my window
This morning’s storm is clearing off, the ground is drying, but it still looks a bit hazy out there.
I am typing on this post as J is watching Avatar: The Last Air bender on Amazon Prime while eating his breakfast. I’m thinking I need to get dressed and ready for the day soon.
Looking Around the House
It’s not in awful shape perhaps with the exception of the surfaces back here. It could as always use a good deep cleaning.
Today’s To-Do List
- Finish up the laundry
- Clean the house a bit (especially back here!)
- Take the boys to get haircuts if J wakes up at a reasonable time for me to take them before I need to leave and go help with the preschool program.
- Do some summer planning
- Go to the grocery store
May magazines as my magazine holder was overflowing. G called me on the last day of school and asked me to run to the local library to pick up The Book Thief because he only had about 20 pages left to read but had to turn the book back into his teacher. I may pick it up and see if I like it.
On the TV today
Not much. J will probably be watching his series on and off most of the day. I will miss The Flash tonight and have to watch it online later. I’m sure my husband will watch the season finale of The Voice as well.
I can tell the boys are out of school for the summer because my desire to menu plan is simply gone. However, their desire to eat (all the time!) is not. Also, our menu plan changes a lot.
Here’s what we might be having this week.
MONDAY: We had spaghetti and meatballs
TUESDAY: It’s 50 cent corn dog day at Sonic and I have somewhere to be starting at 5:30 so it sounds like a wonderful plan to me!
WEDNESDAY: chicken legs in the slow cooker, rice (carry over from last week..)
THURSDAY: fish sticks and baked potatoes (another carry over….)
FRIDAY: pizza in some form whether frozen or take-out
Creating at the Moment
J and I are working on our weekly theme days for the summer. So far, it looks like this:
Mondays will be lazy days (guess who came up with that idea?), Tuesdays will be family video game nights (I may try to sneak some old school non-video games in there), Wednesdays will be Wandering Wednesdays (aka field trip days), Science days on Thursdays, and Outside day on Fridays (J made sure to specify that they would be outside days AT HOME).
New Recipe I Tried
I didn’t think last week’s String Cheese Manicotti was too bad but the rest of the family gave it a thumbs down. SIGH. I didn’t make the minestrone soup.

I’m hoping these get more exciting as summer continues…
