Happy Homemaker Monday, After the Storm

Hopefully, I’ll finish this post in one sitting.  We’re all on the sleepy and cranky side around here this morning.  It was a weekend of on and off thunderstorms around here.  The storm last night hit us the worst.

It brewed out of nowhere while I was grocery shopping.  It was sunny when I entered the store and a torrential downpour of rain upon my exit.  I barely maneuvered around a large tree limb when turning onto our very dark street.

The two texts from both my husband and oldest son telling me to stay put because the power was out popped up as I pulled into the driveway.  I’m still not sure why they thought I’d just hang out at the grocery store until our power restored (at 3a.m.)!

Storms cleared, power’s back, time to move on to planning my week.  I love joining up with Sandra over at Diary of a Stay At Home Mom every Monday and doing this.  I also love seeing what the other bloggers in the link-up plan in for their weeks.  Be sure to check it out!

The Weather

I don’t even need to read it to know it’s going to be humid out there.  Sunny and high 80s with yet another chance of storms tonight.  I love a good summer thunderstorm but I’m getting sick of this weather.  The rest of the week is supposed to be in the high 70s with varying chances of rain.  I’m so glad to see a zero percent chance of rain on Friday since that’s the first home football game and marching band performance for G.

On My Bedside Table

Pretty much the same as last week plus a pile of clean laundry I need to put in my dresser.

On My TV

Still working my way through Fringe before it leaves Netflix in the next couple of weeks.  I’ve heard Stranger Things is good so I’ll probably give it a try next.

Thinking and Pondering

about how much I need to get done today when I all I really want to do is go back to bed.  I’m also wondering what to do with my rather pessimistic child, hoping he was just tired this morning (he did try to go back to bed).  It’s also our 18th wedding anniversary so I’m wondering where the time goes.

Listening To

The dishwasher running, a few crickets chirping outside, and the hum of the computer.

This popped up in my Facebook feed last week and fascinated me:

Menu

We are in such a menu rut around here!  Plus, we still have all the pantry items on the kitchen table because of the ants.  I have a plan for them this week at least.  Be sure to check out Menu Plan Monday over at I’m An Organizing Junkie for lots of inspiration.

MONDAY:  We’re celebrating out anniversary by attending the high school open house.  Exciting stuff!  Not really, it’s just what an 18th wedding anniversary falling on a Monday during the school year looks like.  The football stadium has a new expansion so we’ll be dining on $1 hot dogs this evening.  Not sure if the boys will attend.  I’m probably going to throw a roast in the crock pot for them if I can find some counter space.

TUESDAY: I have Mom’s Night Out so something easy.  Probably popcorn shrimp and baked potatoes.

WEDNESDAY: Time to try something new!  Italian-Style Stuffed Red Peppers

THURSDAY: (early evening band practice for G)  White chicken chili maybe…trying to use up a few of the pantry items covering our table or some other meal involving chicken

FRIDAY: (football game)  Subway, an incidental pregame meal tradition now

To-Do List

  1. Seal cracks between shelves and wall in pantry (this may be a honey-do item).  I think this is where the ants are finding their way into our home.
  2. Organize food on kitchen table and counters, perhaps find a way to give us some space
  3. Organize pantry once ants are gone.  Might as well
  4. Bake banana bread
  5. Start Fall Cleaning
  6. Go to Dollar Tree and pick up some battery-operated candles (getting some for my neighbor as well).  We had enough light last night but the bathrooms were a bit dark and I didn’t want regular candles burning overnight.
  7. Pick up sticks in back yard and mow when things dry out a bit
  8. Laundry
  9. Goes along with Fall Cleaning but restart Room A Week Challenge on Blog
  10. Figure out weekend plans with family.

Looking Forward To

A three-day weekend! Seeing my kitchen table again! A Good Night’s Sleep!  Seeing Friends on Tuesday night!

What I Plan on Doing For Myself This Week

Getting together and catching up with some friends on Tuesday evening.

Lesson Learned From the Past Few Days

Calendars aren’t fool-proof.  I wrote down my book club meeting was on Sunday but it was in fact on Saturday afternoon.  I discovered my error on Saturday afternoon just as it was starting and so while I was able to make it there, I was also an embarrassing 30 minutes late.  Always double-check dates and times.  Maybe triple-check!

Also, it’s usually worth it to step out of your comfort zone.  I had a wonderful time at the book club even though I had to step way out of my comfort zone to attend, meeting people I didn’t know while not exactly being “put-together” as I had to jump in my car and just go to make it there at the 30 minutes late mark, joining a book club made up of people I didn’t know as well as close friends.

From the Camera

This guy showed up on one of our tomato plants. I know he's a pest but he's sure fascinating to watch.

Thoughts for the Week

    Happy Anniversary!
Glad you are safe from the storms.
My suggestion about ants because KY is a giant ant hill even the cleanest places deal with it is plastic containers. Put any open food especially things like cereal, bread and other t items like that to containers. I’ve found it to be a huge help.
Glad you made it home alright!

Thank you! Yes, the storm last night was a bit scary, funny since all the severe weather warning ones were on Friday (those were quite a bit north of us though). I may have to look into some containers, then of course, I deal with “it doesn’t taste the same”

Thank you! This actually doesn’t feel like a busy week which is a bit scary. I keep feeling like I’ve forgotten something important. It’s probably because I don’t have any work scheduled until next week at this point.

Well, that is my list for the entire week (I’m sure I’ve forgotten items) not just today. Only thing I’ve actually accomplished today is to organize the mess on the kitchen table and clear the counter off enough to get out the crock pot and throw a roast in it. I’ll still take the luck though 🙂

I am looking forward to seeing you tonight too!
Troy and I have been married 20 years. It is hard to believe how fast the time went.
We have ant issues too. More than last year.

It was great to see you on Tuesday! We think our ants have moved on, fingers crossed. I put everything back in my heavily cinnamon scented pantry today.

Thank you! We had another round Monday night that knocked out our Internet service, back now, and my desktop computer. Rained Tuesday also. Thankfully, today is a beautiful and cool day, humidity isn’t bad at all.

Thank you! I think this was just destined to be one of those weeks. Dealing with a sick kid at home today but the weather is actually nice and the kitchen table is back so it is definitely getting better 🙂
