Happy Homemaker Monday, Last One of 2016!

Whew!  We survived another Christmas! Now, it’s time to rest, reorganize, and get ready to do it all again next year.  Thought I’d try to sneak this post in prior to all the requests of “Mom, can I have the computer?’ that will surely be coming this way very soon.

As I Look Outside My Window

Out our back deck, I see leaves covering the ground and the clouds starting to clear.  We had a gray, cloudy, rainy, and unusually warm Christmas day around here yesterday.

Right Now I Am

Typing up this post while my husband is sleeping in the living room (probably was up at 4a.m. or earlier as is typical), J is building a new Nanoblocks set at the kitchen table, and the teenager is surely sleeping.

Thinking And Pondering

Thinking that my cold from last week may have turned into bronchitis (boo!) and that I have lots of “after Christmas” cleaning up to do.  The best kind though.  Too much on my mind to really list here although I’ve been pondering what my word of the year for next year might be…

On My Bedside Table

Empty boxes and bags because Christmas clean-up hasn’t happened yet.  Also, a few clothes as I was trying to figure out what to wear yesterday.  It was much too warm for any type of Christmas sweater or sweatshirt.

On My TV

My husband and I have been watching Man in The High Castle on Amazon Prime.  He actually watched it already and is watching it again with me.  We’re almost done with the series and I really want to track down the book of the same name by Philip K. Dick and read it.

We also rented Suicide Squad one night and watched it.  Really, I think G and I were the only ones who hung in there for the entire movie.  And I watched most of Pan, my Netflix disc that came in the mail, although I fell asleep toward the end.  I did enjoy that one and will watch the end later.

Listening To

The morning silence right now.  They’ll still probably playing Christmas tunes on the radio for another few days.

A grocery store trip must happen today after a good and thorough cleaning out of the fridge.  It’s also Christmas break week for the boys which means the menu will need to be fairly flexible.  I don’t think we followed last week’s plan at all.

MONDAY:  Probably spaghetti

TUESDAY: Chicken legs in the crock pot

WEDNESDAY:  Waffles and sausage

THURSDAY:  I’ll probably see what is on sale at the store today.  I’m sure we have something in the freezer.  Tacos are always an option…

FRIDAY: Maybe out

To Do List

Here’s my after Christmas to do list!  The second item on the list will take the longest.

  1. Take down Christmas tree
  2. Organize Christmas stuff
  3. Get out somewhere and get some Christmas wrapping stuff on clearance (we ran a little low this year)
  4. Make a plan for next Christmas
  5. Write a few Christmas blog posts that I didn’t have time to write and have them ready to go for next year

I’m going to work on making our home a little more warm and inviting the next few weeks.

Simple Pleasure

Scented shower gels and soaps.  Scented candles also.  I love these things as long as they are subtle.  I know they can be overdone but if they are used properly, I do love them!

Lesson Learned the Past Week

Quit comparing my family to everyone else.  And that perhaps it’s best to stay away from Facebook a bit in the weeks before Christmas.

Money Saving Mom shared this blog post from the Passionate Penny Pincher on Christmas Eve and it was certainly exactly what I needed to hear this year.

Looking Around The House

It’s a wonderful post-Christmas mess.

From The Camera

So my camera broke right before Christmas Eve.  That means all my pictures will be phone pictures until I figure out what to do about getting a new one.

Santa Came!

Santa didn’t forget the cat!

One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in living room on Christmas day. (Andy Rooney)

In the end, the elf remembered what really matters on Christmas.

And I’m now being asked (rather impatiently) for the computer.  Be sure to check out Happy Homemaker Mondays, hosted by Sandra at Diary of a Stay At Home Mom!

What’s your plan for this week?

Thanks! I actually feel so much better this break than I did at this time last year (last year I slept the entire break so I’m glad to be up and doing stuff even if I’m not 100%).

Sorry you are sick! I know so many people who are sick this year 🙁 I hope you start feeling better soon.

I completely agree that the mess on Christmas morning is the best in the world 🙂

Hope you enjoy your holiday break!

Thanks. I was surprised to hear how many members of my extended family had been sick this year as well. I’ve been drinking lots of green tea and it seems to be doing the trick as I do feel much better today. Hope you are enjoying your break as well!
