Welcome to the first Happy Homemaker Monday post of 2017! I think this is my first post of the new year as well.
Many thanks to Sandra from Diary Of A Stay At Home Mom for hosting the link up and continuing the tradition into this year. I really enjoyed looking back at all my posts from 2016 as I pondered the outgoing year a few days ago.
Let’s just jump into the new Happy Homemaker Monday post today.
What you want? If you’ll just wait 5 minutes, you’ll probably get it this week. Right now we have rain. It’s supposed to be in the low 50s today. Tomorrow will be the same but with less rain. Later this week the highs drop to the mid 20s. I saw a snowflake on my phone weather app for Thursday but it looks like they lowered the chances of that considerably for now.
On My Reading Pile
I’ll probably just read whichever of the January Amazon Prime Kindle selections appeals to me the most. I’m itching to get to the library or Half price book store to see if I can’t find a copy of The Man In The High Castle though.
On My TV
We finished watching Man in the High Castle on Amazon last night. Other than that, it’s been a few random Netflix movies including Paddington Bear (I watched it alone and thought it was great) and Captain America Civil War (two and half stars…long one that gets better near the end). And of course, I also watched The Martian (my Christmas gift from G).
Menu This Week
School starts back this week on Wednesday (as does work for me on Thursday) but the first part is still our break and we’re still in that weird zone where routine is out the window and planning meals is a hit or miss. I’m also doing my traditional, we’re going to eat what we have so I can have some freezer space back thing…
MONDAY: We’re thinking of going out for Chinese for a late lunch/early dinner. Did I mention our routine is way off? **update** J and I ate McDonald’s at home while G and my husband went to eat Chinese (sometimes getting everyone to agree simply takes too much effort).
TUESDAY: Waffles, Sausage & Bacon, Orange Juice
WEDNESDAY: Pork Chops, Baked Potatoes, Corn Bread (mix in pantry)
THURSDAY: Probably tacos (I work until 6)
FRIDAY: I’m thinking some type of snack dinner maybe the little smokies wrapped in crescent rolls that I didn’t make over the weekend (something easy since I work until 6 again). Some sort of Feast for the Epiphany. And a cake, of course.
To Do List
- Decide on my word for the year (Hey, if you could help, my finalists are in this post)
- Put Legacy boxes in mail (I finally got them together yesterday!)
- Find something to put on front door after wreath comes down on Friday
- I’m not sure…I want to DO ALL THE THINGS but I also want to take a nap
What I Am Creating
Nothing but I’m thinking of trying something like this with a scarf I love but seldom wear because it makes my throat scratchy. We’ll see if I get brave enough to try something crafty this year.
Looking Around The House
It’s not in terrible shape. All of Christmas has been put away with the exception of the Nativity and the wreath on the front door. Oh, and the wrapping paper I just noticed leaning against the wall. Overall, it needs a good cleaning (I think I may say that every single week?).
From The Camera
I’m still upset that my camera broke right before Christmas. Turns out new cameras are a bit pricier than 5-6 years ago. Using the phone camera just isn’t quite the same but I’m trying to make the best of it for now.
Something Fun To Share
I did this with some of our Christmas cards this year. I love that it gives them a new purpose.
What I’m Wearing Today
Jeans, t-shirt, and tennis shoes although I doubt I even leave the house today.
One Of My Simple Pleasures
Sleeping in late. Somewhere in all the noise, I started feeling guilty about sleeping late even on our break days and felt the need to force myself to be up early no matter what. I love a nice quiet morning but I forgot how nice sleeping in could be as well.
I’m sure part of it was a result of getting over a nasty bug but I have slept in blissfully late at times during this break (not quite the teenager noon standard but I did sleep until almost 10a.m. one morning!) and it was so nice to wake up feeling rested and thinking wow, I must have really needed that. Not sure if it’s related to getting better rest but I’ve been keeping my phone in a different room than the bedroom at night.
Quote For The Week
How is your first Monday of the new year going?
