Happy Homemaker Monday, Next Monday Is Christmas!!

Did you know?  Next Monday is Christmas!  Are  you ready?

I’m most definitely not ready.  Not at all.  The boys have 3 days of school left so my goal is to use that time wisely.  We shall see if I succeed.

Glad to be linking up with Sandra over at Diary Of A Stay At Home Mom for the Happy Homemaker Monday.  The week before Christmas definitely requires a plan!

Did I mention we’re having my husband’s family over for breakfast on Christmas morning?  I flip back and forth between excitement and wondering what we were thinking…

Let’s get on with the planning of this week.

Breakfast Time…What Is On The Plate This Morning

It’s an oatmeal day! Cinnamon spice with blueberries mixed into it.  AND coffee.  Always, coffee.

Right Now I Am

Working on this post, eating the oatmeal mentioned above, and trying hard not to think about all the things I need to do between now and next Monday.

The Weather Outside

More on the delightful than frightful side.  The high is supposed to be in the upper 50s today and most of the week. Cold front supposedly moving in for the weekend with a very slight chance of snow on Christmas Eve.

A little overnight snow on Christmas Eve would be perfect. I’ll gladly take the current weather for my last-minute shopping and errands this week.  J said he’d rather have big snows in January, the kid is thinking snow days!

Looking Around The House

Surprisingly, not awful (as long as the doors to the boys’ rooms stay closed) but as always, needs a good cleaning.  And that is on the list for this week.

On My To-Do List

  1. Clean out fridge
  2. Go to grocery store
  3. Get haircut (today)
  4. Go to Bunco Christmas potluck (tomorrow)
  5. Christmas shopping (probably a little every day this week)
  6. Wrap Christmas presents
  7. Clean house
  8. Pay Bills
  9. Finish Christmas cards (ran out of stamps)
  10. Buy Stamps
  11. Send out birthday thank you cards (late with this item)
  12. Buy more thank you notes (always a good thing to run out of these)
  13. Finish decorating for Christmas (need husband’s help)
  14. Buy more garland for living room/kitchen doorway
  15. Work on a few blog posts
  16. Make sure we have everything we need for Christmas breakfast
  17. Clean boys’ rooms (don’t worry I’ll make them help)
  18. Clean our room (should be easier once Christmas is wrapped, hiding places are hard to come by in a small house!)
  19. Bake Christmas cookies! (not too many though)
  20. Any fun last-minute ideas I have time to do…

Currently Reading

December magazines and still working my way through How To Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind: Dealing With Your House’s Dirty Little Secrets by Dana K White.

On The TV Today

Depends on my mood and whether I’m home enough to watch anything.  The local news is on right now because I forgot to turn it off when I did the school run.

On The Menu This Week

My goal is to do a bit better this week and have at least 3 (5 would be great!) regular meals at the table. Seems to be a tall order for this time of year.

MONDAY:  Taco Salads (taco meat already cooked in freezer)

TUESDAY:  Rotisserie chicken and salad

WEDNESDAY:  Pork chops (going to try making them in the crock pot)

THURSDAY:  Runza burgers (hamburger with cabbage cooked on top), sweet potato fries

FRIDAY:  Spaghetti

SATURDAY:  Probably out (We have a family birthday party at lunchtime)

SUNDAY:  Thinking about making chili or maybe lasagna…or just doing snacks..

If I Have A Few Minutes To Myself, I Will

Read or play this silly little game J put on my phone. (Animal Crossing Pocket Camp…I’m  hooked!)

New Recipe I Tried Or Want To Try

Still need to make Wassail but over the weekend I tried this Red Velvet Cinnamon Roll recipe from Taste of Home. I used a yellow cake mix since I’m not a fan of red velvet cake and thought it sounded yucky as a cinnamon roll base.

They turned out okay but took a really long time to make and I was the only one who actually liked them.  J said they were too “lemony” Weird because there was not lemon added to them. I think he just didn’t like the icing. My husband said they were good but then only ate one.  G wouldn’t touch them.

Looking Forward To This Week

Sleeping in a bit on Thursday since the boys will be on Christmas break! (unless I end up working…never know)

Favorite Photo From The Camera

Slow-picture taking week around here last week:

“Buddy” was hoping those “deer” Chiefs would give us a win and they did!

I took a few to show off my work painting party stuff.  My “masterpiece”: My coworker spoiled me during the Secret Santa gift exchange! Loved everything she gave me. No idea how she knew I wanted a super cozy throw (didn’t write it on my sheet at all) or to get the perfect color to match our sofa! And this candle smells so good!  Plus you can absolutely never go wrong giving me a fun coffee mug, I’ll use it. And somehow she also knew to give me one that was dishwasher and microwave safe 😉

Quote For The Week

How about a song instead.  My all-time favorite:

Are you ready for Christmas?  What’s your favorite seasonal tune?

Yes, it is a long list but it’s for now until Christmas so I think I can pull it off. Sleep isn’t really necessary, right? Ha! Hope you have a great week as well!

Yes, what happened to December? Seems like I had all this time to do stuff and now…oops, it’s gone! I think I actually enjoy our elf more than the kids 🙂 Hope your week is going well!

We (well, my husband) actually has 2 deer mounted. One on each side of a picture in the living room. Balls on the ears like earrings, that would be funny but not sure my husband would agree. Hope you are having a great week!

I thought so as well. Probably will be giving the list a bit of scrutiny later in the week. Still have high hopes today although I’m going into work this afternoon. Tomorrow will be my “get it done” day. Hope you are having a great week!

Thank you! I’ll take the good luck. Think I may need it. My list seems to keep getting longer instead of shorter, seems for every one thing I cross off, I remember 2-3 more items that need to be done. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas as well!

Yes, I’m afraid I put a little too much off until the last-minute this year but I am enjoying the season. Just returned from a nice morning coffee chat with a friend which was nice. The recipe turned out okay, I just think we prefer the more flaky cinnamon rolls around here as opposed the bread-y ones like these. Easy recipe but required lots of time for rising (of course, I’m not used to making yeast-based recipes so maybe not). Hope you are having a great week!
