Happy Homemaker Monday, May Marches On…

It’s another Monday in May! Do you feel like this mama? It’s kind of how I felt this morning. I just wanted to sleep a little (okay, a lot) longer. Too early to count down to Saturday? Probably.

If we can get to Saturday, the pace should slow for a tiny slice of summer. Can’t wait to savor that!

Meanwhile, it’s time to plan the week ahead. Last week of school around here!

The Weather

Still cloudy right now but it’s supposed to be sunny and almost 80 degrees today after our fairly rainy weekend. Sunny and upper 80s most of the week (another chance of thunderstorms on Wednesday) and I see 90s showing up for the weekend. Summer’s arriving!

Right Now I Am

Drinking a berry protein shake and hoping this post helps me get a better feeling for the things I need to do today and the rest of this week. Just finished calling J in sick as he caught his brother’s cold.

Thinking

I might also have a touch of the same cold and how I really don’t want to be sick. Also, trying to decide what to do for G’s birthday. It’s today! He didn’t want to celebrate with friends until this weekend as he has lots of finals this week.  Can’t believe I have a 17-year-old son. I’m just not old enough for that 😉

On My Reading Pile

Finished reading Under The Wide And Starry Sky by Nancy Horan.  Gave the library back The Naughty Nineties: The Triumph of The American Libido by David Friend (I may pick it up again in the future but it was taking me way too long to get through all the footnotes). Felt the need to read something I could get into and quickly read so I’ve started on Altar of Bones by Philip Carter.  Enjoying it so far.

On My TV

Last week left me a bit behind on my TV viewing so I’ll be playing catch up a bit this week. Need to see last week’s episode of The Flash before Tuesday’s season finale. Now that the weather is nicer, I’d so much rather be outside than watching TV although I do enjoy a few of the summer shows coming back like American Ninja Warrior and Beat Shazam when I catch them.

Something Interesting I Watched

My husband and I watched The Dressmaker (an Amazon movie) over the weekend.  It’s the type of movie I’d have never picked to watch myself (my husband has a talent for picking random movies and usually they turn out to be great) but I really enjoyed it.

It’s about a small town and a woman returns who was sent away because as a child she killed another little boy. The whole town despises her yet hires her to make them beautiful using her dressmaking skills. Lots of twists in the plot and it’s also a bit campy. Apparently, based on a novel of the same name written by Rosalie Ham. Probably going to seek it out and read it.

What I Found While Surfing The Net

Didn’t really have a lot of time to do this last week.

On The Menu For This Week

Since last week didn’t go as planned (do they ever?), let’s look back at it first.

MONDAY: Tacos (think we did have these though they weren’t met with much enthusiasm)

TUESDAY: My Bunco theme didn’t go as planned although my family did get to enjoy Picnic Chicken (I only did chicken legs) for dinner. I deemed it to messy and not pretty enough for Bunco. I picked up Subway for Bunco (not an exciting choice).

WEDNESDAY: Frozen pizza  I fed the boys mozzarella sticks, my husband had a ham sandwich, and I still had my pizza salad.

THURSDAY: Pork chops, baked sweet potatoes

FRIDAY: Asian inspired Flat Iron Steak, broccoli, rice My husband cooked hamburgers (I ended up working until 5:30)

SATURDAY: Hamburgers, Jicama Fries Date night, we went out

Yesterday, we had chicken strips and I went ahead and made the Jicama fries. Think I over-seasoned them a bit but not sure they’d have been a big hit even without that. I didn’t mind them though.

So…on to the coming week…

MONDAY: No idea. J’s choice although I think I’m going to pick up some ribs at the store this morning as a stand by meal in case he can’t decide.

TUESDAY: ham steaks, biscuits, salad *I work 10-5*

WEDNESDAY: Chicken enchiladas (mini tacos for the picky ones) *MNO?*

THURSDAY: Asian inspired flat-iron steak (carry over from last week)

FRIDAY: OUT for last day of school

*all subject to change as I really need to go to the grocery store

On My To-Do List

  1. Go to grocery store!
  2. Pay straggler bills
  3. Still need to get cat flea medicine (she doesn’t have fleas but I know the season is here)
  4. Clean house
  5. Start getting vacation folder together
  6. Write a few blog posts
  7. Store returns (ugh, I despise doing returns!)
  8. Get with J about his birthday weekend plans
  9. Any of the stuff from last week I didn’t get done (mostly cleaning)
  10. Make summer guidelines for boys

In The Craft Basket

Not much. Too rainy all weekend to really do anything outside. Maybe this week. I do have some ideas…

Looking Forward To

The last day of school for the boys! A summer of not making lunches! Not having to worry about getting anyone up early but myself!  Going on vacation! Sunny, warm days at the pool!

Looking Around The House

Cat hair! Everywhere! And all from one tiny cat. Also, stuff from a whole family. Needs a good cleaning.

From The Camera

While sitting on the deck steps talking on the phone one evening last week, I looked up and saw this looking at me… The second one is a bit blurry (zoom lens, I’m not getting close to a racoon!). We have a raccoon family residing in one of our backyard trees.

Quote For The Week

I really loved reading this in Under The Wide And Starry Sky:

In the end, what really matters? Only kindness. Only making somebody a little happier for your presence. (Nancy Horan)

*********

Hoping your week is filled with things and people who make you a little happier.

I didn’t keep up very well this week with either the protein shakes or my blogging. Wish I could find a protein shake that I enjoyed the taste of a bit better. Why can’t they make one that tastes like an apple fritter? LOL! Hope you’ve had a wonderful week and a fantastic holiday weekend as well.

Thank you! Poor kid had to take two finals the day after his birthday but I think he had a good night. I did enjoy the movie, probably worth your time. Hope you’ve had a wonderful week!

They’re really cute from a distance! Of course, now we have to be on extra cat duty to make sure she doesn’t decide to mess with them. Hope you have a great Saturday!

Thank you. Can’t quite decide if this stuff is spring/summer allergies or a cold. Our pollen counts are supposed to be super high according to the local news. The raccoons are fun to watch. Hope your week was wonderful and your weekend is as well!

They really are cute especially the babies. I wish I could get a better picture of all the babies but they don’t tend to come out of the hole in the tree until almost dark. Maybe I’ll get lucky today. Hope you’ve had a wonderful week!

Hi, Jean! I’m sorry I’m posting so late this week. Just got home last night. Hope you’re feeling okay now and what did you end up doing for G’s birthday? Love the raccoon pics! We’ve been getting the storms, too. Last Saturday evening one took out one of the redbuds and the big cherry tree. Fortunately, there are lots of babies and they’re starting to produce, so, we’re still in business! Have a great weekend, my friend! <3

Well, I don’t think I’ve even visited many blog friends from Monday and it’s already Saturday morning! Busy week. We didn’t do too much for my son’s birthday. He wanted Chinese from the grocery store and then, I got him a French Silk Pie. It’s hard when your birthday hits during finals week at school. He wanted to celebrate with his friends this weekend but his cousin’s out of town and another close friend is working. Hopefully, next week or weekend. Sorry about the loss of your trees! I love red bud trees, so pretty. We had one in the backyard where I grew up until one of those harsh ice storms took it. Hope you have a great weekend as well!

    Hey Chica! 😉

School countdown is on here too! So sorry to hear the sickness hit you too. Ugh!! It has not been fun and seems wrong when you have a 70* day outside. Lol

I remember seeing something about that movie when it was out and wanted to see it. Is it Kate Winslet in it, right? I may have to go look that one up.

Love the raccoon pics! Hope you have a blessed holiday weekend ahead Jean. xoxo

We’re finally done with school over here! (Well, my preschool has one more week before it’s just the summer session but I don’t get called as often for that). Now, it’s the countdown to our vacation. Hope everyone is feeling much better over there! Yes, that’s the movie. Hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend, also!
