Summer Simplicity And Our Next Link Up

I wasn’t sure what I’d post about today. When trying to do a blog series, I think there’s a tendency to want the subject to be more.  The trap of disappointment set it sights on my summer and my postings.

My kids (and to some extent) husband were not cooperating with *my* big fancy organized summer bucket list.  Work’s plentiful this summer (not a bad thing, just hard to balance at times) and of course, everyone seems to be doing more exciting things than us. I should know better to fall into that trap.

However, I started thinking about why I love summer so much more than the other seasons. And I realized, for me, it’s all about the simplicity of the season.

Everyone loves the fall and while after my last 30 days series, I embraced the season. It still doesn’t hold the special magic in my heart like a warm summer afternoon with cotton candy clouds floating against a blue sky.

Winter holds both my birthday and Christmas. However, it also holds the prospect of not just stepping outside the door. Coats and shoes and shopping.

Spring for me is like a summer tease. The weather sometimes arrives but the simple slow down of the schedules take a bit of time.

Tuesday evening our a/c broke and led to yesterday being a simpler one than I planned.

We skipped searching out a new pool. And just as the sadness settled on me about having 2 teenagers not wanting to “hang out” with poor mom, J popped out of his room with a “surprise” movie for us to watch together.  We spent the afternoon watching How To Train Your Dragon and eating popcorn for lunch.

Just before dinner, G agreed to go with me and get a free 7-11 Slurpee. A quick, fun and simple outing. (Side note: the Captain Crunch Berries Slurpee is oddly good)

No huge to-do list, no demanding schedules, shorts and tee shirts weather, simple foods (no, I’m not counting a Slurpee as food), easy days at the pool or not. These are the things that make summer my favorite.

What are some of your favorite things about summer?

I hear you, Jean! I have apparently fallen into the trap, because I feel totally inaquatint in most of my summer postings, but, you have opened my eyes to that, so maybe I’ll be able to shrug that feeling off in the days that remain.

And, yes, with all this heat, try as I might, summer is still my least favorite season, BUT, I am looking for and finding many enjoyable things about it that I wouldn’t have noticed if it weren’t for this series, so that’s good! There is something to enjoy about every season…in nature and in life.

As for everyone doing more exciting things…nothing is more exciting than a trip to northern Minnesota. Believe me! I know! 🙂

And, as for summer being a time to slow down with less demanding schedules, I can only dream. Summer is my busiest time of year…especially at work. Lots of summer programs and working every other Sunday afternoon or more. I look forward to fall. For me that’s when the slower time comes and the less demanding schedules.

Either way, all is good though and I am very much enjoying doing this blog series with you. I only wish I had more to off and a bigger audience to share.

    Have a great day! <3

I’m enjoying doing this blog series as well and reading your posts! It’s all about just adding another element of fun to summer for me 🙂 I do need to confess the heat about did me in today. A workday for me and we spent all morning until almost noon outside with the 2 year old class because we knew it would be too hot this afternoon. I can barely keep my eyes open tonight!

Love this Jean! I wish I could say that I found summer more simple. I guess in some ways I do as there isn’t school activities to worry about and structure that way. But we have more traveling sports time all summer. What I sign up for as a Mom when the kiddos love sports I guess. 😉

But I do love sleeping in a little later. Less structure. Lots of popsicles and ice cream while hanging out on the deck to chill. WAlks with Ruby. Picnics, mini golf, going down by the water and skipping stones. Fires and making s’mores. All the wonderful things about summer.

Blessings on your weekend ahead! I’m going to take a little blog break but will jump back in when I get back. xoox
