I do love Christmas music though I can hold off until after Halloween with my listening. Once the local radio station switches over to Christmas music, my car dial stays there.
And of course, I have a couple of Christmas stations on Pandora. Listening to the Classic Christmas Carols station currently.
They’re playing one of my instrumental favorites: Sleigh Ride composed by Leroy Anderson. With two sons in band, it’s a good thing I enjoy it.
I’ve heard lots of renditions. Thinking of starting a parent pool on which band, the 6th grade, the middle school, or the high school will play it during the Christmas concerts. Did you know the lyrics weren’t added to the piece until 1950? And the horse whinny is a trombone? Did I mention I’ve heard lots of renditions of this song throughout my two sons’ band seasons?
Looking forward to perhaps hearing yet another rendition at the high school concert this week or the middle school concert next week.
Some of my favorite Christmas Classical Music Pieces:
Sleigh Ride (I also like the versions with lyrics)
All the music from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky
Any classical composition of Silent Night
And new to me from last year, the music from Krampus (Still too chicken to see the movie!)
My favorite classic Christmas Songs:
My all-time favorite Christmas song: Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives (and re-makes are not allowed. Kindly leave this song alone.)
Upon The House Top by Gene Autry (I don’t mind other versions of this song)
Walking In A Winter Wonderland
Do You Hear What I Hear (I love the Carrie Underwood one)
White Christmas by Bing Crosby
Unpopular Songs I Enjoy:
Might cause a bit of controversy here but I happen to like Last Christmas (only the version by Wham, not the Taylor Swift one).
And my Christmas season is simply not complete until I hear Same Old Lang Syne by Dan Fogelberg aka the song for when you need to cry a bit. It’s not as depressing as The Christmas Shoes song (I just can’t listen to that one).
And as I know I’m leaving so many great Christmas songs out because I can’t remember them all, I’m just going to end this post with a fun favorite from my all-time favorite Christmas CD. Perfect for those stressed out by the season:
Ho Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rhum
What’s your favorite Christmas tune?
