I Like Snow Days

We’re enjoying a snow day today (Wednesday).  The call didn’t come until 5 AM but a snow day is a still a snow day.  Then later, when I saw my work also called a snow day, I cheered. It’s rare for the boys and I to both get a snow day.

I like snow days. Today I’m taking part of the quiet early morning (my husband still went to work and the boys are sleeping, of course) to work on my I Like Thursday post.  Barring another snow day (unlikely), I’ll be working a full day tomorrow.

The fresh snow (on top of the layer of ice, real reason for the snow day) makes everything look bright and beautiful again. The previous snow was getting old (in more ways than one) and starting to look dirty.

I like seeing fresh tracks in the snow.  Especially little paw prints and those left by the birds. Makes me smile.  From the fresh snow this morning:

However, my favorite sight today by far…the sun! I like blue skies! Here comes the sun:

Cold or not, I’m going to stand out there for a few minutes and “recharge” later.

Fair warning: Much like a snow day schedule, this post is going to ramble about in a lazy, unorganized fashion.

New candle scent, appropriate, called: Snow day. Had to take a break from cocoa and cream after J started complaining about it. Probably related to his illness last week but nice to have a change.

Wonder how a snow day smells? I’m not sure how to describe it, kind of like a piney vanilla. No other opinions on it yet.  Definitely, does not smell like food.

Speaking of Food…

Sometimes, I actually make healthy food (she shares while waiting on banana muffins thrown together from a cake mix to bake..ahem).  Prepared this Easy Healthy Baked Lemon Chicken last night.

Been craving citrus like mad with the cold, cloudy weather. Served the chicken with rice and sautéed zucchini.  J didn’t care for it and G went out with friends but my husband gave it his approval. And I liked it.

Isn’t this Olive Oil bottle pretty? Used the oil to saute the zucchini.

Time for second breakfast, banana muffins made from the cake mix.  Hey, at least they have bananas in them. Did I mention the dire need for a grocery store trip around here?

Other Random Likes (Probably Repeats):

Books and blankets. Hooray for finding one of my favorite winter blankets! And a good, intense read. Finished it.

Cats who think they’re in charge and blanket scarves. I wear this around the house when I’m cold. The scarf, not the cat.

Well, my boys stumbled out of their room all caught up on sleep. And before noon! So, I’m signing off for a while to peddle banana muffins and pretend to be productive with household chores.

Thanks! It was a nice snow day, even watched a goofy Netflix movie. Of course, a holiday and a snow day in the same week made for a bit of a chaotic week. Hope your weekend is going well!

Love snow days, even with the extra kiddos I tend to have here. Lol. We have had 2 hour delays each of the last 2 days. Those I could do without. That lemon chicken looks yummy; i think I will have to try it soon. Hope you have a great rest of your snow day!

They tried delayed start around here a few years ago, not sure if they still have it, and I was not a fan. Throws the whole day off! The lemon chicken was good. If I make it again, I’ll probably put it in more of a casserole dish for baking than the shallow pan I did use (made it hard to basted the chicken with the sauce).

Lucky dog!!! I guess I’m just going to have to make a trip home to get a good snow day in…huh? Enjoyed your post! Would like to get a whiff of that SNOW DAY candle! And the lemon chicken looks really good! Hope you’ve enjoyed your snow day! <3

And we’re supposed to get more weather this week! I worry more when they say “just a dusting” than when they predict the bigger storms. This time is supposed to be mainly cold though. It was nice to have a snow day but as February gets here, I fully admit to being a little ready for some warmer (and drier) weather.

It’s so nice to see blue skies! They seem so much nicer after too many cloudy days. I also have sweet tooth! Hope you’re having a great weekend!

Hi Jean, catching up on Like posts and this is great! Love the bird prints in snow, and you gave me a creative moment thinking of what a snow day smells like… fresh, piney, clean… I want to eat the chicken with lemon right now! For breakfast! And bananas are always a fave flavor, I’ll take a muffin to go!

Awesome post. I like candles, but I have found my mood changes depending on the day for the scent I want to smell. Love the tracks. That is one of my favorite things about snow. Like your blanket you wear, glad it isn’t the cat. LOL

Thank you! I get like that sometimes although my main thing is I don’t like scented candles going if I’m cooking (after is okay but not while something is in the oven/on the stove). Hope you’ve had a great weekend so far!

Ha ha! I love it “pretend to be productive with household chores” LOL I do think many times I get more done around here when my girls are home, and especially when my husband is home. Yesterday, President’s Day, he was off, but the girls had school. We finally took our tree down, but first I had packed away all of the other decor. The ornaments still need to be packed away, but only 1/3 are my responsibility as 2/3 belong to the girls.

So the banana muffins made with a cake mix were tasty? did you wing it, or did you have a recipe?

Yes! your green olive oil is beautiful! Interesting, I have exactly one of those here also, actually two, but one I’ve already soaked the label off – I’m saving it. I have to be careful with me and glass recyclables, even plastic ones, as I tend to keep them. I don’t have any bottles now other than the green one, but I did recently keep a mess of plastic containers which did become quite useful when we opened up our 25 pound bag of brown sugar LOL

Tracks in the snow are so pretty. Snow days are nice.
My husband and I were just talking about weather days because here in AZ there really aren’t any bad weather days, but back in Wisconsin where we lived they have had quite a few snow days this year. Crazy!

I’m the opposite. I get so much more done if I can have an empty house and crank up my 80’s music and just clean. Yes, the banana muffins were really good! I used this recipe: 4 Ingredient Cake Mix Banana Muffins I can’t imagine living somewhere without snow days. Can’t decide if I’d like that or not. Warmer weather, yes. No snow days, unsure. 🙂
