Gratitude From A Grouch

Sometimes, I think people perceive me as sort of happy go-lucky and not very bright. As rather shallow. Those people don’t know me very well.

While for the most part, I am a generally happy go-lucky person who tries to stay positive and upbeat, it doesn’t mean I don’t have my days where my mood is more storm clouds than sunshine and rainbows. Just because I prefer not to discuss politics or world issues with you, does not mean I don’t follow the news.

However, I’ve found that looking for gratitude does help the bad moods. Sometimes. In order to stay authentic, I’ll share I was in an awful mood on Saturday. And for no real good reason. Sometimes bad moods just happen.  I was not in the mood for gratitude.

However, I started a gratitude list any way. And my mood passed. Not right away but in time. Feelings come and go and are not right or wrong. Feelings are just feelings.

Whew! Let’s go back to being happy go-lucky and not so serious and check out the gratitude list for this busy week!

(Not many pictures to share as this has also been an exceedingly busy week!)

Going to stop at the really random number of 17 this week.

This song popped into my head while typing the caption on my first photo so I’ll leave you with it:

Time to hop off of here and start cleaning the house. I need to clean it just to get to the spring cleaning stage. Scary!

What’s on your gratitude list for this week?

ah yes, the surprise grouchy mood… it’s been hanging out around here. I listened to a TED talk about that, and the speaker said noting the gratitudes really changed moods. It’s not like pollyanna, like put a happy face on it, it’s more real. And I went grouchy watching the news, so that’s on my list to avoid now.
Good list, and I’d be shocked if anyone considered you shallow… I can tell you have great heart, and are a deep thinker and one who wants to make life a good thing. LeeAnna

Aw, thank you for your kind words. I do better watching the news if I do something I like first. I don’t like to start my day off with the news, puts me in a not so good mood depending. Sometimes my husband turns the local news on before I’ve started my day but I cope. They do a morning segment called “tell me something good” and share good things during part of it. I do enjoy that. Hope you are having a wonderful Thursday so far!

Arh bless you Jean. I really don’t like discussing politics in blogland – people have many different views. I’m not terribly keen on watching the news either (I’m not an ostrich buring my head in the sand) but just find it all doom & gloom. I tend to have UCB 1 or Premier Praise on DAB radio & sometimes I listen online to the American KLove channel. The news is to a more manageable amount amongst lots of positive speach and songs.
    Take care. Cathy x

Thank you. Yes, I usually start off with my silly little happy phone game before venturing onto the news. The KLove channel is a good one. I admittedly don’t listen to it very often (hard to tear me away from my beloved 80’s music) but I’m always moved when I do catch it. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend so far!

People think the same of me…I do not discuss politics or religion, though I am a deeply religious person I quit watching TV, especially the news, years ago. Everyone has a grumpy mood every so often…helps you see the good after passing through the bad.

Wow, I think it would be tough not watching TV (maybe not so much the news). Of course, I’m surrounded by boys over here and I think the TV being on all.the.time is in their genetic code LOL! Hope you are having a wonderful weekend so far!

I always enjoy your gratitude lists, and appreciate how they help you feel more positive and lift your mood! I try to do the same thing as often as possible. On your list, I had to nod my head and say, “Oh yes,” to the teenagers arriving home safely. My boys haven’t been teenagers for a long time, but I still remember that feeling!

Thank you! I haven’t quite become used to the teenagers not getting home before I’m ready for bed stuff. Not sure what I’m going to do when my oldest is off at college and I’ll have no idea. Guess you get used to it. Hope you are having a great weekend so far!

I really enjoy your lists – they’re all over the place and always have some great stuff. I’m listening to Don’t Worry, Be Happy as I type this reply. I’m there with you on the grouchiness. The drawback of being a generally good-mood person is people are really not prepared for when you’re not and expect that you’re ALWAYS in a good mood. Hmph. 🙂

Thank you! It’s a catchy tune isn’t it? I won’t argue about politics or religion but I might argue all day (and all night long, hey, there’s another tune) about 80’s music being the best 😉 Hope you’re having a happy, worry-free weekend!
