Happy Homemaker Monday, Mid-June!

A bit of a late start with this post today as I was off on an adventure with a friend. However, I have some free time now to share about our adventures and plan the week ahead!

We started off in search of an Iris Farm. Arrived only to find a not super friendly proprietor who directed us to the Internet as it was past bloom time (though a message on their answering machine had told a different story). Wound up in Weston and had lunch, browsed the few open shops, and then made a quick stop at the state park. Not the day we’d planned but still a fun adventurous sort of day.

Joining in with Sandra from Diary Of A Stay At Home Mom to keep my weekly planning motivation moving. Go check out her blog, lots of encouragement there.

The Weather

Can you believe it’s not quite officially summer? It arrives Friday! It feels a bit summery today at least. Highs in the 80’s all week with chances of thunderstorms here and there.

On My Reading Pile

Managed to get a little reading done last week thanks to Amazon Prime reading. Read Memory of The Butterflies by Grace Greene which was somewhat enjoyable and then, my Kindle First selection of False Step by Victoria Helen Stone. I wasn’t impressed with that one. And now, I’m working my way through The Day The World Came to Town: 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland by Jim DeFede.

Movies Or Shows I Watched This Weekend

Friday night, I watched Wreck-It Ralph Breaks The Internet, cute but not as good as the first movie.  On Sunday, we watched My Cousin Vinny together as a family (it was my husband’s Father’s Day gift from the kids).

On My TV This Week

Probably a few more episodes of Lucifer but I’m going to try to focus on spending more time reading.

On The Menu For This Week

I made an angel food cake (from a box!) for Father’s Day yesterday. Served with fresh sliced strawberries and whipped cream.

ooo the bandit! What a good shot! Love angel food cake, and I was just thinking the same thing about fresh sheets. they are all unwrinkled, stretched out cleanly not areas of wrinkles like you get the next morning… all clean like a white page to write or paint on.

Thank you. Another week got away from me! Glad this one looks to be *slightly* slower. Wish I could get into a bit of a routine with our clean sheets. Maybe I’ll figure it out one day. Hope you’ve had a great week. Happy Sunday!

Even though your adventure went a bit awry, it sounds like it turned out okay. My cousin has lots of irises and she sells starts. Are there any particular colors you’re searching for? And I’d be happy to share some of mine with you. I just sent a whole big box full to a friend in Texas. I’d be happy to do the same for you. The angel food cake looks amazing! (It’s my favorite!) Love the photo of the raccoon and what a great find at Weston Bend (Cerulean Warbler)! Have a great week ahead, my friend! Blessings! P.S. – I will have lots of purple-headed coneflower see to share a little later on, too. Let me know if you’d like some! 🙂

We had a great adventure; it was fun. Now, we have preliminary plans to check out a day lily farm instead 😉 I just wanted to see the irises but yes, I might want some. Thank you! I transplanted the ones I had here to a sunnier local & can’t remember for sure but I think they were purple. I’ll have to ask my husband if he remembers. It’s on my list of garden areas for around the yard if I could just get our finances/the weather/my time to cooperate I might finish one of these half-done areas, LOL! I’ll message you about the flowers when I figure out what I’m doing. Hope you had a great week and are having a great start to this new one.

Glad you had a good adventure though different from the original intentions. GREAT capture of the raccoon! I ABSOLUTELY agree with your simple pleasure! That is probably one of my favorite days of the week – changing the sheets HA HA Your angel food cake looks so elegant in the bundy pan! Have a GREAT week.

Thank you! I need to assign a day for changing our sheets. It’s sort of a when I get to it during the week chore and we’ve been so busy lately. SIGH. I found a angel food cake pan in the cabinet (another thing on the never-ending list…go through the kitchen cabinets & clear out/organize) but it didn’t look as nice 😉 Hope you’ve had an amazing week. Happy Sunday!

My in-laws used to make angel food cake & then frost it with strawberry frosting. I always thought it so odd. My parents never did that so I refuse to do it as well. (My husband does prefer the strawberries) My dad’s favorite was pineapple upside down cake, I haven’t had one of those in a long time. Maybe I’ll see about making one some time this summer. Hope you had a great week!

Thank you! The cute little bandit ate the whole suet block I had out for my woodpeckers & nuthatches. I wasn’t too happy with it. We also have to keep our trash locked away now. Kind of a hassle but he was fun to watch for a while. Hope your week was wonderful!

Freshly washed sheets is definitely my favorite thing on earth 🙂

I’m so sorry your trip to the Iris farm didn’t pan out, wish some of these businesses would stay on top of things so as not to have people drive out of their way for nothing. But, glad you were able to make something out of it 🙂

Hope you have a wonderful week!

They really are wonderful to climb into after a long day aren’t they? Thanks, it was an interesting experience with the not super friendly fellow but we made the best of it and had fun anyway. Hope you had a great week. Can’t believe it’s already a new one. Happy Sunday!

Your cake looks yummy especially with thd strawberries and cream. You did well to capture your bird feeder bandit. I’m guessing you have a zoom lens as he’d probably be a skittish fellow. Clean bedding (job to do today) is heavenly isn’t it. Cathy x

Thank you. Yes, I do have a zoom setting, it’s what sold me on my camera (it’s a bridge camera so no changing out of lens over here…maybe some day I’ll be at that level but not right now). Hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend so far!

Hey Sweetie! Sorry this week got really away from me. Hope it’s been a good one for you so far ❤️

I think irises are so pretty. I don’t know why I’ve never thought to plant any. Glad you made something out of the whole deal Hon.

I love freshly washed sheets too. The best on that first nights sleep And that cake has me SO hungry for angel food cake now. A fave in the summer – angel food cake with the berries and cream. Yum!

    Blessings to you Jean! xo

I think these summer weeks tend to get away from all of us. I’m sitting here wondering how it’s already Sunday? I only have irises because my in-laws gave us some at one point. I need to plant a few more to fill things out, maybe some day. Hope you’ve had a fantastic weekend so far.
