Happy Homemaker Monday, First Full Week of Summer

Happy Monday and happy summer!  I have the first 3 days of this week off work and I’m excited for a little down time.

Planning my week as always with Sandra from Diary of a Stay at Home Mom and the other lovely bloggers who join in this weekly link-up of hers. Let’s go straight to the categories.

The Weather

Storm clouds building on Saturday evening

Not currently cooperating. Too much rain for many of us. Some sun and normal summer temperatures due later this week. And another (!) chance of rain tomorrow and Thursday. Hopefully, the rain will be a no-show. And the sun will fill in for it.

On My Reading Pile

Thursday afternoon, I wanted to find a book about summer to read to the preschool class on Friday morning. I ran to the library and realized I also didn’t have anything to read during J’s baritone lesson. I quickly grabbed a couple of books off the shelf.

You Were Always Mine by Nicole Baart sucked me right in and I finished it by Saturday morning. Currently, I’m reading my other quick choice, Beyond The Ice Limit by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. It’s interesting but I am able to easily set it aside.

Movies Or Shows I Watched This Weekend

I mostly read or was outside (when it wasn’t raining) or did other things. I did catch a bit of Holey Moley, the mini golf show last night. It was okay not something I’d seek out but enjoyable for a random summer night.

On My TV This Week

I’m not sure. If the weather is nice, I plan to be outside more than inside watching anything.

On The Menu For This Week

It’s one of those time to stretch the grocery budget weeks around here. So, menu is coming from what’s in the pantry/freezer/fridge. I am, however, over-due a grocery store trip.

MONDAY: Chicken, probably fixed in a simple way. *I have a hair appointment at 9:45*

TUESDAY: Spaghetti or if I may search out a calzone recipe as I have some pizza crust mixes in the cabinet and am a bit tired of spaghetti

WEDNESDAY: Mongolian Beef in slow cooker

THURSDAY: Fish/Shrimp in air fryer, baked potatoes *I work 8-4:30* *J’s baritone lesson at 7:30* *MNO*

FRIDAY: Frozen pizza/Salad for boys *I work 8-4:30* *Dinner plans with friends*

On My To Do List

  1. Get Haircut
  2. Mow the lawn this afternoon (hoping it’ll be dry enough by then)
  3. Pay bills
  4. Grocery store
  5. Go somewhere to get storage tubs (Target?)
  6. Bank
  7. Spend some time with the boys
  8. Write July activities/my work schedule on calendar
  9. Clean off this desk (and the rest of the house!)
  10. Plan a date night with husband?

What I Am Creating

Lots of fun garden spaces around the yard in my mind. In reality? Not so much…

Looking Forward To

Seeing the summer blooms on my flowers

Looking Around The House

I spent time cleaning over the weekend (though not enough) and tried to stay on top of it. Overall, I can see where it might eventually feel calm and welcoming again.

From The Camera

This bird startled me on Saturday afternoon. I had to look it up and see what on Earth it was… A grackle fledgling!

His parents were not making me very happy taking over the suet feeder and chasing this sweet little fellow away.

What I’m Wearing Today

My S.T.A.R. labs tee-shirt and navy blue Capri pants plus fancy Crocs.

One Of My Simple Pleasures

Dreaming about how I’m going to decorate the house and planning my garden areas around the yard.

Quote For The Week

There shall be Eternal summer in the grateful heart. (Celia Laighton Thaxter)

I hope you get to have some rest on your days off to recharge. We are also in a pantry/freezer menu plan mode around here, although I will have to get milk/fruit, etc. later this week. I hope this week is a good one for you!

Thanks. Made it through today without the phone ringing though I feel as if I did lots of running around for some reason. Hope you have a wonderful week as well!

Thank you! I’m trying to enjoy my days off, find that balance between all the have-to’s and wanting to relax a bit 🙂 Hope your week was off to a wonderful start!

I’ve decided, I do not like grackles.. ugly things, arent they! It is so wonderful watcvhing a garaden come alive.. Mine has been so waterlogged things are a bit stunted.. I am hoping with this sunny week things will begin to spring forward.. Have a great week, my friend and enjoy your days outside!!

It’s not that I think the (adult) grackles are ugly with their shiny purple heads *but* chasing away my downy woodpeckers yesterday and not sharing. They’re mean! I don’t think I like them very much either. Bought a new bottom feeder suet feeder yesterday so hopefully, they’ll not be able to figure it out and will move on to cause chaos elsewhere. Everything is behind on the blooming schedule around here as well. Hope you have a great week as well!

Some of those furry caterpillars can be pretty startling. We’re apparently under yet another weather watch again today, maybe it will go around us. I hope it at least waits until I get the lawn mowed. Hope you are having a terrific Tuesday so far!

I LOVE all your pictures this week – nature always makes me smile. Congratulations on having a few days off. I hope your week is spectacular!

Thank you! I love watching the birds and being outside checking on the flowers. I’m still trying to adjust to having a few days off (checked my phone this morning just in case…SIGH) but I can tell I really needed it. Hope you have a great week as well.

Aw, thank you but really my camera does most the work for me. I’m trying to enjoy these days off, it’s nice to sleep in a slight bit though I’m still setting my alarm so as not to waste the day too much. Hope you have a great week as well!

Enjoyed reading your post as always. Baby grackles are rather strange looking, aren’t they? And the downy’s are so cute! We’ve got one that regularly visits our feeder, grabs a seed, then flies over to the edge of the porch and shoves the seed in a crack along one of the porch rails. He’s so funny! Your coneflowers look lovely. Hope you’re having a great week full of blessings! <3

Thank you. Yes, they certainly have a startling appearance. I thought it was some type of vulture at first. I changed bird feeders since the grackles ate an ENTIRE block of suet yesterday and now I have my downy woodpeckers back & I spotted a baby red-bellied woodpecker earlier this morning! Just hoping they were wrong about more rain/the chance of severe weather predicted for this afternoon. Hope your week is off to an amazing start!

      1. Rebecca Knox

Yes, a vulture was my first thought…which reminds me…there’s a program on vultures that I want to do that is super cute! I’ll have to share that idea with you sometime. Anyway…did you get the rain? We had sunshine and warmer temperatures here today. And, yes, my week is off to a busy, but amazing start, as I hope yours is the same. Blessings! <3

That sounds like a fun program. No, we got a break and the rain went way north of here. My days off went so fast but *hopefully* I’ll have a few more days off in a row after these 2. Happy Wednesday!

  5. Hooks and Needles

You’ve reminded me, that I really must have a look at what’s in the freezer tomorrow. I’m going to shop at the local shop tomorrow and it will help to know what we already have. I also need to catch up on some cleaning jobs that haven’t been done all week.
Yesterday was busy with work, shopping and a hospital appointment to check out a mole causing irritation. My hairdresser spotted it when I mentioned the discomfort. Thank God, all is well but who would ever know if they even had a mole on their head – under hair!
Anyway, time to catch up on chores, take care. Cx

    1. Jean Post author

Well, I went to the grocery store hungry & before breakfast today. Suffice it to say were well stocked on lots of items including junk now. Hope the mole is nothing serious, glad your hairdresser spotted it. Hope you got all caught up on your chores and are enjoy the rest of your week.

Thank you! Summer returned and then some, heat advisory days. I’ll take them over the endless rain though. Hope you’ve had a great weekend so far!
