Happy Homemaker Monday, Happy July!

And just like that….it was time to turn the calendar page to a new month.

Happy July! July is a busy month around here. So, I’m glad to have these weekly planning posts to keep me somewhat focused.

Joining in as always with Sandra from Diary of a Stay at Home Mom, our wonderful host of the link up. Let’s get to the categories and see what’s on the calendar for this first week of the new month.

The Weather

Finally, some normal weather around here! Highs in the low 90’s all week with a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms. Sounds like swimming pool weather to me!

On My Reading Pile

Finished Beyond The Ice Limit by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. It was okay. Started reading a house-cleaning book called Simply Clean by Becky Rapinchuk, the founder of the Clean Mama website. As much as you can enjoy a book on how to clean the house, I am enjoying this one. Probably going to write a quick review once I finish it.

Movies or Shows I Watched This Weekend

My expectations were low when I said, “I think I’ll watch this Netflix movie about the giant metal dog.” However, A.X.L. turned out to be a pretty good movie. A bit reminiscent of the 80’s movies I enjoyed.  I also tried the first episode of Into The Badlands to see if I wanted to watch it. Still undecided on that one.

On My TV This Week

Not sure, I may try another episode of Into The Badlands to see if it hooks me. Should be new stuff for July on Netflix so depends on what pops up….

On The Menu For This Week

My desire to cook in the summer especially on warmer days is about a negative 2. Yet, they still insist on eating dinner.

MONDAY: Fajita salads. We made steak and chicken fajitas on Saturday so I think we’ll just throw the leftovers on salads for tonight. *J has a baritone lesson at 6:30*

TUESDAY: Spaghetti *I have plans with friends*

WEDNESDAY: Mongolian Beef & Chicken, rice *carry over* *Firework display for our city*

THURSDAY: Chicken strips, macaroni & cheese, salad, dessert? *Happy 4th of July!*

FRIDAY: Pizza maybe…

On My To Do List

  1. Write all the dates on our July calendar
  2. Go to Target for household items (I didn’t go last week)
  3. Go to bank
  4. Usual house cleaning things: laundry, dishes, etc
  5. Put out U.S. garden flag
  6. The things I forgot to do last week (when I remember them)

What I Am Creating

A clean and peaceful home….maybe?

New garden area for the backyard, wildflower garden didn’t work out thanks to a well-meaning neighbor who saw weeds. And so, he brought over his weed-eater to fix things for me. Sigh.

Add buy small fencing for garden area to my list of things to do.

Looking Forward To

Being at home and giving the house (and family) some attention this week.

Looking Around The House

It’s been worse but it needs some attention today.

From The Camera

A cuter little fledgling showed up this week:

red-bellied woodpecker fledgling

And this fun little bird returned to the yard as well:

What I’m Wearing Today

Right now I’m wearing my STAR labs tee-shirt and navy blue skorts.  I threw these clothes on to go put out my bird-feeder so I’ll probably change after I shower.

One Of My Simple Pleasures

A quiet house on summer mornings

Quote For The Week

Weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them. (A.A. Milne)

P.S. Happy Canada Day to those of you to my north!

What’s on your agenda for the week ahead?

I love the negative 2 rating for cooking, but yet they insist on eating statement. Made me chuckle this morning. There is just something about this time of year that begs to ignore cooking – I’m feeling it too. I just couldn’t get into the Badlands. I’m hoping for something on the new Netflix list to catch my eye too. This is probably my least favorite time of year due to weather too, but it’s a necessary evil for all the wonderful rest of year. Have a safe and wonderful 4th of July and great rest of the week.

I’m thinking there might be lots of salad on the menu this week. I think it’s the heat combined with lack of a good routine that makes me just not want to mess around in the kitchen very much. Hope you had a great 4th of July!

Im feeling the I don’t want to cook vibe as well. This week I am going easy as it is dress rehearsal week for “Wizard of Oz” so Bill and Rebecca have to be at the theater at the same time we usually eat dinner so they have to eat super early. Today I threw 3 huge chicken breasts and half a bottle of bbq sauce in the crockpot and they can make bbq chicken sandwiches before going with fruit and coleslaw. Tomorrow I am pulling leftovers out of the freezer. Wednesday we are putting leftover chicken on salad. After that I am not sure. LOL I love July as it is my birthday month, although I don’t like the humidity that July brings. Have a great 4th of July!

That sounds like a perfect and easy summer meal. Happy, Happy Birthday month to you! Hope you had a great 4th of July as well!

Don’t you just love well-meaning neighbors? Sorry that he cut all your wildflowers down.

Into The Badlands … I liked it but it’s not for everyone. It’s a bit fantasy based when it comes to martial arts, but the story itself is pretty good. I think it might have been based on a book, but I’m not sure.

I’ve had a low desire to cook recently too, it’s just so hot but the slow cooker and the instant pot have made it more bearable, as well as doing easy dinners like po-boys and fruit salad.

Hope you have a wonderful Fourth of July week!

Thank you. They are really good neighbors so I couldn’t be too upset though I don’t know why he veered over into my yard as I clearly mowed around the mess. Oh well, gave me an excuse to try something new with the little area. I haven’t made it back around to Into The Badlands but I may go back and try again eventually. Just a low cooking/no cooking time of year. Hope you had a fantastic week and wonderful 4th of July!

Thank you! I think it is that time of year. So fun to watch. Been spending a lot of time doing that instead of in here working on blog posts. Hope you had a great week!

Thank you! Geraniums are also some of my favorite flowers. It’s just not quite summer without a pot of geraniums on the porch or back deck. I lucked into a great sale at Home Depot when I found those giant pots of them. We’ve been using our air fryer quite a bit, my new favorite kitchen appliance. Hope your week was wonderful!

Thank you! Hope you had a great Monday as well and are off to the start of another great one (somehow I lost an entire week around here!)

Thank you! Yes, too hot to cook…the people who don’t think that are the ones who should do the cooking 😉 Hope you had a great week!

    HI Sweetie!
Love your flowers and the cute little flag. And I always love your bird photos.
I love using leftovers as a second meal in a different way too. I’ll often make shredded BBQ chicken or pork for sandwiches and use the leftovers for a fun nacho the next night. Or cut up grilled meats and throw in a pasta salad too.

That cleaning book sounds intriguing. I like things like that too for good tips or ideas. I’ll have to check out your review if you do one and see what you thought.
    Have a blessed July 4th! ❤️

Thank you! The book is really motivating but I’m still working my way through it. Busy weeks…even when I’m not working it seems. Hope you had a fantastic 4th of July! I missed quite a few blog visits last week so I’m planning on catching up with you this week. 🙂

Arh no, dreadful about your wildflowers getting killed. Somebody else said that once too. They’d replaced their front grass verge with wild flowers – which incidentally may happen across Lincolnshire (Midlands UK) as it’s cheaper than mowing grass verges (says the local council). Anyway, a well meaning neighbour must have thought weeds and rushed out to kill them all. It was probably whilst they were out too! Lovely photos, thanks for sharing, Cx

Thank you! Sorry to hear I’m not the only one who has well-meaning neighbors who see those wildflowers as weeds. I have some fencing to put out in the area now so I guess I can try again next year. A little too late for this year, think it would be be December before they bloomed, ha! Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Hey, Jean! As you can see, I’m running waaaay behind this week! Hope you and your family had a great 4th of July! Love the fledgling woodpecker! So cute!!! And sorry about your neighbor seeing weeds. I’d be devastated! :’/ Love your quote about wildflowers though! So true! <3 Hope you're having a nice weekend. Will see you again tomorrow! Blessings!

You aren’t the only one 🙂 I don’t think I even managed to get around and see everyone last week but I’m just going to start fresh today. Hope you had a great 4th of July as well!
