Happy Homemaker Monday, Last Week of Summer

A bit of a later start to planning my week today. I work later today but had to spend the morning dealing with putting our pantry back together. We had an ant invasion over the weekend.

I guess it’s going to be kitchen clear out week around here. Gave the pantry a really good cleaning this morning before returning and re-organizing all the contents. Left me inspired to move on to the rest of the cabinets. Been on my project list for a long time.

Taking a break to plan the week ahead before I return to it and get ready to work later.

The Weather

Summer is reminding us that it’s still here for another week. Highs in the low 90’s to upper 80’s all week. Chances of rain on Saturday and Sunday. I really hope the rain holds off as J has his first band competition on Saturday.

On My Reading Pile

I picked up I Let You Go by Claire McIntosh at the library. Started it, put it down, and finally last night picked it up again. It’s intriguing but a bit troubling to read at first as it deals with the hit and run of a 5-year-old boy.  Going to be a tough read for me considering I work with 2-5 year-old children.

On My TV

Cheesy Netflix movie for the win. I broke down and watched I Am Mother on there. Not as bad as I anticipated. Not good but not that bad. Alternate title suggestion for them: Terminator: From the Machine’s Point of View.  Also watched a movie I’d requested on disc, Mortal Engines. Clearly a movie produced for effects vs plot though I enjoyed it.

On My Menu

I’m doing another round of the Take Ten challenge so my menu is somewhat set though I’m shuffling some menus due to time constraints and my ongoing freezer/pantry clean out project.

MONDAY: pancakes and sausage (shifting and subbing this for the day that looks like omelets as my husband doesn’t do eggs) *I work 1-3:45* *J has a baritone lesson at 6:30*

TUESDAY: Chicken legs *J has early morning band practice* *I have Bunco*

WEDNESDAY: Looks like some sort of tacos *J has early morning band practice* *I work 7:30-noon*

THURSDAY: Roast in the crock pot *J has evening band practice* *I’m helping prepare food for the band competition day*

FRIDAY: Chicken and pasta of some sort (I may just make chicken cacciatore) *I work 9:30-6*

On My To Do List

  1. Pay bills
  2. Freezer/Fridge/Pantry (done!)/Cabinet clean & clear out
  3. Grocery store for lunch stuff mainly
  4. Still need to take items to donate
  5. Wash bedding

What I Am Creating

Hopefully, a clean and cozy home that’s ready for fall and winter.

Looking Around The House

We have stuff everywhere! It’s making us all grouchy, I think. Necessary component of remodeling the bedroom but I’m ready to have my living space back.

From The Camera

Didn’t pick up the camera much last week. Here’s glance at my ant-inspired pantry project.

On My Prayer List

Family, friends, speedy recovery for a fellow teacher who was extremely sick (hospitalized) last week…

Quote For The Week

Don’t let seeds of discontent take root in your spirit. (Joel Osteen)

I needed that message yesterday as well as the run my own race reminder when I happened to flip on the TV to his sermon. Definitely something I needed to work on last week and going forward.

I detest those pesky little varmits They can be so insidious .. Glad you were able to get the pantry done in good order this morning and that your other projects will unfold just as quickly… We had to spray quite a bit on our sunroom to keep the little devils out of our kitchen… I have a busy week this week,, not much time to do things that need to be or that I want to do. so I am wishing us both a great week ahead! God bless you!!!

Thank you! Our pantry is on an outside wall so about 1-2 times a year (spring and fall), the ants like to come and visit. Probably time to have my husband spray the outside again as well. Hope you do find some time to do they things you enjoy in your busy week & that it’s a great one for you.

Thankfully, we noticed them very early and were able to get everything out of the pantry before they had a chance to discover anything tasty. The Take Ten challenge is the same one I didn’t about 2 weeks ago, just spending 10 minutes or so meal prepping each evening/morning for dinner each night. Hope you are having a wonderful Tuesday so far!

Yes, as annoying as those pesky ants were they did inspire me to get going on reorganizing the pantry. I’m on to the medicine/paper goods side today (no ants over there, just mess LOL). Hope you are having a wonderful week as well!

We have a fair amount of bugs here, I’m okay with them as long as they stay OUTSIDE where they belong. Hoping the remodel is done at least by Christmas. That seems reasonable. Hope your are having a great week so far!

Thank you! It’s a nice benefit of having to take a kid to early morning band practice, getting to see a lot of beautiful sunrises I’d have otherwise slept right through. Hope your Tuesday is off to a great start!

Ugh, pesky ants! I have so many modular containers from my time in the Western Pacific – there were critters around all the time and I just got used to taking things out of the boxes and other containers and popping them right into a modular container.

Cozy is the way to go when the temperatures start to change. Out come the blankets for curling up under on the couch, the hot cocoa mixes, fluffy socks, I love this time of year.

We have a few of those but for whatever reason my kids seem to ignore cereal and such unless they’re in the original packaging. Go figure. My pantry make over plan does involve using some for the basics though 🙂 All those cozy things sound so nice and yet yesterday we ended up with a heat advisory day! Ugh. Hope you have a wonderful week!

Glad you haven’t had to deal with any ants there. I thought Texas had the red kind that bit? Maybe they don’t invade homes, hope not! We’ve made so much progress I know it will be finished soon enough, I’m just impatient 🙂 Hope your Tuesday is off to a terrific start!

I love, love, love what you are creating! It’s so easy for me to forget that the work I do at home is a form of creation just as much as sewing or painting.

Sorry I’m running so late this week! I’m so sorry about the ant invasion! What a pain – we had that issue about a month ago – what a chore! But, I do LOVE, LOVE your inspiration! I’d send you some Fall if I could – so glad it’s here! Have a GREAT weekend.

    Greetings, Jean!

I’ve been trying to get over here and read your posts for some time now, but haven’t had time to do it justice until now. Am enjoying a rainy weekend off and am finally able to settle down to some things that I’d like to do. YEAH!!! <3

I'm sorry to hear about your ant infestation. They were moving in in anticipation of the coming deluge. It's good that you got to clean and reorganize your pantry though! What a great feeling and inspiration that is!

Your menus look good, as does your pantry! (I so want to get in here and catch up on your Low Spend September posts!) What is a Take Ten Challenge?

Hope to look around some more while I'm here! Hope you all didn't get rained out on Saturday!

Blessings, my friend! Have a great week ahead! <3

That must have been it with the ants. It really was nice to re-organize and clean the pantry. I even did the other side last week (no ants on the paper goods side but it needed it as well). The Take Ten challenge is/was a meal prep/planning challenge to spend 10 minutes each morning night prepping dinner. I’m not doing so good this time. Happy 1st Day of Fall to you!
