Happy Homemaker Monday, The First One Of The New Decade!

The title of this posts sounds a bit more perky and exciting than I currently feel.   I woke up early the past two days (courtesy of the cat on Saturday) but there’s something different when you *have to* be up early isn’t there?

Today’s the Epiphany so per our tradition, we’re having one last special holiday meal to celebrate before I pack away the rest of the Christmas decor.  Maybe one final (small) gift for everyone. Then, it’s all back to routine around here this week. Well, except for the college kid, he gets one more week to be lazy.

Happy to be home to plan the first full week of 2020 with a Happy Homemaker Monday post and link it up with Sandra over at Diary Of A Stay At Home Mom.

The Weather

“It’s really nice out for January” Direct quote from J as he opened the front door yesterday. Hard to have the winter blahs with our current weather. Highs in the upper 40’s to lower 50’s and sunny mostly all week (chance of rain on Thursday into Friday). Winter returns from its vacation next week, I think.

Right Now I Am

Listening to the washing machine while I’m down in the basement working on this post. Battling a slight cold (and so grateful it’s just a cold and not the flu as I keep seeing scary news stories about how bad the flu is supposed to be this season).

Mostly about all the things I need to do today.

On My Reading Pile

Overdue library books! Didn’t get to the library yesterday. Have two half-read books on my pile but I want to start fresh with something new to start off the year. Read a couple of magazines over the weekend.

On My TV

This could explain the lack of reading. Binge-watched season 4 of The Magicians on Netflix. Then, started watching The Librarians on Hulu. I’m already on season 2 of that one.  Need to return to listening to music and reading more.

Something Fun To Share

I found a bluebird of happiness during a walk on New Year’s Day!

On The Menu For This Week:

MONDAY: Epiphany!  Turkey breast roast, sweet potatoes, cranberries, salad, rolls, 3 Kings cake *J has not lesson but does have pep band at 6*

TUESDAY: Fish, shrimp, asparagus *J has pep band at 6*

WEDNESDAY: Turkey sandwiches, homemade potato chips

THURSDAY: BBQ chicken, maybe rice? Need to think out the sides

FRIDAY: Maybe soup??? Not sure *I work 8:30-5:30*

On My To Do List

  1. Return overdue library books
  2. Put away rest of Christmas decor (Nativity set, greenery around kitchen doorway)
  3. Update technical stuff  to see if it solves photo loading problem (resizing every photo to load onto this blog is getting old fast)
  4. Clean out 2 more kitchen cabinets (It’s kitchen clearing week here!)
  5. Laundry! Dishes!
  6. Whatever I’m forgetting…sure there’s something.

Homemaking Tips

Taking time to focus and enjoy the process of something like washing the dishes makes it feel like less of a chore.

Looking Around The House

I’m ready for the openness feeling of a January decor. Also, my question for you is about snowmen. Christmas or Winter? Keep them out or put them away? I just put them out but I’m not sure if they’ll stay:

From The Camera

I know my post is already a bit picture heavy but I made a goal to pick up my camera every day in 2020. Forgot how much I enjoyed taking pictures there near the end of last year.

We had beautiful New Year’s Day weather around here and I took advantage by going for a walk at a local park to soak up the sunshine. Thinking I might be solar-powered and my battery definitely needed the recharge!

Quote For The Week

What are your plans for this first full week of the new decade?

Oh my it looks balmy where you live! Have never seen those bluebirds before – he is really cute.
I too was thinking of leaving snowmen out… but I finally put them away. Instead, in a few weeks, will put some red touches out for Valentines.
    Have a great week

It has been quite a bit warmer than normal for January. However, by next week, it could be freezing cold. Never know. It’s an Eastern Bluebird, state bird of Missouri 🙂 I guess I’ll see how I feel about the snowmen after all of the Christmas stuff is away. Hope you have a great week as well!

Thank you! My picture really doesn’t do it justice, people were sending ones into the news that were simply stunning. Hope you have a great week also!

I saw the picture of the little bluebird and immediately went “Awww.” It is so cute! Love your quote for this week.

As far as the snowmen go… There are 2 approaches I would personally use: 1) I say leave them out for January and then if you have Valentine’s stuff swap them out in February. 🙂 or 2) If when you look at them and they give you a little smile then I say leave them out. If you look at them and see clutter or it reminds you of stupid winter snow 😉 then I say pack them away.

Have a great rest of the week!

Thank you! Those are good ideas for deciding about the snowmen. I do have Valentine’s stuff to swap them out with in February. Hope you have a great week!

It’s been really nice here too for January. I like your comment about being solar powered, as I do need the sunshine. I have a snowman collection and I usually leave them until March as we usually have snow into March.

I’m glad the weather’s been a bit nicer though I do hope it doesn’t mean a super snowy, cold February. Sometimes we’ve had snow here in May! Thankfully, not recently and it did melt the next day but ugh. Not a fun thing. Hope you have a great week!

We’ve had great weather both during December and now in January, even some days hitting 70’s. It’s crazy.

I too get caught up on binging certain shows and end up neglecting my reading. I’m making a conscious effort this year to get back to reading more, and picking up my crochet again.

    Have a blessed week Jen!

I really need to get out and enjoy today because I guess our weather run is ending on Friday, chance of snow overnight. Of course, can’t be too upset as it is January. My plan for reading, I think, is going to be getting back to setting aside a certain time in the afternoons to read for 30 minutes. Hope you are having a great week so far!

Enjoyed reading your post, Jean! Your pictures make me homesick and amen to your household tip about doing chores! It’s all in the attitude! As for snowmen…I say winter, but I generally pack all of mine up when I put away the Christmas stuff, so, maybe the answer is Christmas…I don’t know. Hope your 2020 is off to a great start! Blessings for a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year! <3

Thank you! I have the snowman out for right now but I may change my mind about them if it actually snows. By the way, I ended up buying some yellow roses off the check stand at Aldi today and thought of you 🙂 Hope you are having a great week so far!

I’m running quite a bit behind visiting this week. I enjoyed catching up on your HHM post. Gorgeous sky photo and the bird is really cute. We also wait until epiphany is over to clean up everything. I also find simple satisfaction in the small chores being done. Have a great weekend.

Thank you! We have another neighbor who waits as well, I always enjoy seeing her Christmas lights the first week of January. I’m glad she got them all down before our weather today though (sleet, ice, and now snow. AND it was almost 60 degrees on Thursday. LOL). Hope you are enjoying your weekend so far.
