Happy Homemaker Monday, Happy Winter!

Happy Monday!

Ready for another week? This one seems a bit busier than usual around here.

Just going to get right to the post. Joining in as always with Sandra over at Diary Of A Stay At Home Mom.  Sandra switched up the categories for the new year/decade!

The weather

We had a winner (Go Chiefs!)/Winter weekend.

Bleak picture belies the festive mood of our city. This week is back to our normal all over the place weather with highs mostly in the upper 40’s and another chance of snow/rain (depends on the temperature) on Friday.

How I am feeling this morning

Woke up tired. Slept okay but was not ready for that 6:00 AM alarm. Feeling a bit overwhelmed when I look at the calendar.   I work every single day except tomorrow and J has an activity (lesson/Pep band) every single night except Wednesday.

He also needs new shoes and a hair cut which we now have planned for Wednesday evening. And we’re out of many household supplies meaning tomorrow my “free” day is also slated to be spent mostly running around.  Guess I’m feeling a bit grumpy this morning.

On my mind

All of the above things on the calendar.

My job, the school changed quite a bit in the past few years, it has grown which is a good thing but I’m really missing the small feel of the beginning. I’m not a fan of some of the newer changes (even though I understand the need).

Plus, one of my very favorite teachers is leaving at the end of the school year. She taught me so much as she was there from the beginning and so I’m so sad to see her go. Another newer teacher is also moving on so I’m starting to wonder about things. I have to remind myself I work in a field with a high turnover/burnout rate and yet….hopefully, today will be a good day as I do work at 1 PM.

The breakfast plate

Apple cinnamon instant oatmeal and too much coffee

On my reading pile

Went on a bit of a reading rampage over the weekend since Good reads told me I was behind on my goal for the year!

Finished reading Home Sweet Maison: The French Art of Making a Home by Danielle Postel-Vinay. Then picked up The Testaments by Margaret Atwood and finished it in a day. Read one of my Amazon Prime, first read choices, Thief River Falls by Brian Freeman. And finally, yesterday, I read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. Reviewed the first three over on Good Reads.

I only have one library book left to read this week: Of Mess and Moxie: Wrangling Delight Out of This Wild and Glorious Life by Jen Hatmaker.

TV viewing

Didn’t watch the Chiefs game except in glances (I can’t officially watch or they tend to lose…ahem, yes I did watch for the first few minutes).  Mostly, I’ve been watching The Librarians on Hulu. Not sure what I’ll watch this week.

On the menu this week

Did I mention this week seemed busier than normal?

MONDAY:  Chicken legs, rice *I work 1-3:45* *J has a baritone lesson at 6:30*

TUESDAY:  Pulled pork sandwiches, homemade sweet potato chips *J has pep band at 6*

WEDNESDAY:  Taco salads?  *I work 12:15-3:45* *Haircut/shoe shopping with J*

THURSDAY: Chicken sausage/coleslaw/potatoes  *I work 7:00-3:45* *J has pep band at 6*

FRIDAY:  French Toast (freezer) and sausage *I work 7:00-3:45* *J has pep band at 6*

From the camera

I’ve been doing pretty good with my goal of picking up the camera every day in 2020!

Looking around the house

I cleaned a teeny tiny bit yesterday morning but you can’t really tell. It’s in need of a deep clean especially the bathrooms.

Chore I’m not looking forward to today or this week

Clearing off the kitchen table. I’m working through the kitchen in a big clean out/clear out project. I have one upper kitchen cabinet to go. However, it means this is very close to the current state of our kitchen table:

I’ve put away some of the items but the table remains covered with new discoveries.  I also need to pay bills, never a fun task.

To relax this week, I will

Listen to some peaceful music at home. Turn up my 80’s tunes in my car! Take my time in Target (maybe…that might get expensive).

On my prayer list

My children, all the college kids returning to classes this week, some sick friends and their family members, neighbors, strangers.

Devotional/Bible Verse/Quote For The Week

Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:34)

I finally hung this picture up in our bathroom. It hung in my husband’s grandparents’ bathroom for years. So, seemed a fitting place to hang it up in the bathroom off our bedroom. A nice reminder for us all:

What does your week ahead look like?

Wow that was a lot of reading this weekend. Good for you! And yay for the Chiefs! I watched the Packers game last night and was so glad when they won. One step closer to a Chiefs\Packers Super Bowl Your kitchen table reminds me of my desk – a catch all for stuff. Hope you get through your busy week and can find some moments of rest.

Yeah, and a lot of ignoring other stuff I should have/could have been doing 😉 I was cheering on the Packers as well! I think it’s the year for both teams (hope so, anyway). Perfect description of our kitchen table though it’s usually not quite that bad but I have to have somewhere to sort stuff while I go through the cabinets. Hope you have a wonderful week!

Oh, boy, your blog reminds me I need to get the bird feeders going. Of course the weather has so mild the birds are doing ok. The sting bugs are in the house bah . I am hoping for a real cold snap to rid us of those pesky creatures~

Oh, I’m so sorry about the stink bugs. We have them as well. They like to sneak in the basement…my son & his friends killed 2 down here for me just last night. UGH. Maybe the birds could do a better job of eating those? Make us all happy 😉 Hope you have a wonderful week!

Thank you so much! I think the prayer worked a bit because my Wednesday cancelled. An extra day off (maybe)! Hope you have a wonderful week!

Thank you, it was my very favorite thing (outside of people) when we’d go and visit there. My week has calmed down a bit (or maybe I have, ha!). Hope you have a great week as well!

Thank you! I have a special setting on my camera for “moon shots” so that helps. Hope you have a great week as well!

Thank you! I’ve been resting a bit today (too much, turned on the tv, oops!). Hope you are having a great Tuesday!

Hi, Jean! I also picked up Thief River Falls on my First Reads. Did you finish it? I haven’t started yet. You really finished Testaments in a day? Wow. I haven’t bothered with it because I didn’t love Handmaid’s Tale in the first place. Kind of thinking I may give it another read and then pick up Testaments because I keep hearing good things.
Hopping over to look for you on Goodreads! Have a great week!

I did finish Thief River Falls and thought it one of the better First Reads I’ve come across in quite a while. Yes, I read Testaments in a day but that’s also pretty much all I did that day. Funny, I wasn’t a huge fan of Handmaid’s Tale either. Then, my husband started watching the show (funny because I still haven’t bothered) and so when I saw that one in the library, I picked it up. I don’t think you really need to re-read Handmaid’s Tale for it unless you want as it stands pretty well on its own. Thanks for looking me up on Goodreads 🙂 Hope you have a great week as well!

I think it’s just the nature of cleaning and organizing. I don’t know if you’ve ever read anything from Gretchen Rubin (she wrote The Happiness Project, Happier At Home, etc) but one of her “secrets of adulthood” states “Things often get messier before they get tidier.” The current state of my kitchen is definitely proof. I’m here answering comments because I had to walk away from it for a minute. Hope you are having a great week so far!

Yes, Go Chiefs! The teacher for today canceled so I get a little extra time this week. Much needed, using it to try and recover our kitchen table. Still have to take my youngest shoe shopping and haircut getting tonight. Not my favorite activities especially with a moody teenager but I’m sure it will be fine. Hope your Wednesday is off to a wonderful start!

    Hello my dear sweet Jean!
I missed you! You do have a crazy week -wowzers! Sorry to hear about all the changes at the school. That is the one thing we can always count on…change in life, huh? ((sigh)) But glad that you’re still enjoying it there. I love your goal with the camera for the year. I need to get out my good camera and get back to using it more. That’s such a wonderful plan! We’re so spoiled with camera phones and that convenience…but it’s not the same thing. I still really want to get proficient with manual settings too. I think you’re inspiring me to pick my camera back up. I love the pics you took.

And you’re also inspiring me to get more organized too! Lol That is something needed in many areas around here. Blessings on your week and getting everything done! xoxo

Yes, you are very right. The only constant is change. Good reminder to someone who doesn’t always deal well with change. Probably helps me stay motivated to pick up my camera as I have a dinosaur of a phone, LOL! Currently, I’m wondering why I thought organizing the kitchen was such a great idea and *HOW* so much stuff fit in such tiny spaces. Junk drawer? Ha, I think we have junk drawers, cabinets, etc. Hope your week is off to a wonderful start!

My week’s been really nice. Getting a bonus day today as pretty much everything here is cancelled (including my work!) because of icy conditions. I think I’m going to use the day to finish my kitchen clear out project and reclaim our kitchen table as a place to eat. Hope you’ve had a wonderful week and are getting ready for a fabulous weekend.
