Happy Homemaker Monday, Almost May!

Can you believe this is the last week of April? It felt at times as if we wouldn’t get this far. Let’s see what’s going on in the week ahead as I wait impatiently for the stay at home orders to lift. (Our state orders end on May 3. However, here in the K.C. metro area most areas ours included have a delayed date of May 15.)

Joining in as always with Sandra over at Diary Of A Stay At Home Mom.

The Weather

Yesterday, was a beautiful and warm spring day. Even managed to mow the front yard. However, it rains every other day it seems. And the backyard resembles a swamp. Rained again overnight. Rain is supposed to move out today but then, more chances tomorrow. After that, we get a few decent days at last. Most our highs show as the upper 60’s to mid 70’s. Sounds right.

How I Am Feeling This Morning

I’m bouncing back and forth between feeling full of motivation and wanting to just go back to bed and pull the covers over my head. I’m feeling a bit restless.

On My Mind

All the things I want to do, places I’d like to go after the stay at home stuff ends. Today, the only place I’m going is to the curbside pickup at a local farm supply store. We’re out of birdseed for the downy woodpecker and he’s quite unhappy about it. I’m out of my other birdseed as well. And the store is out. New kind ordered, hope the birds like it just as well.

On My To Do List

  1. Order and go pick up birdseed (in process, order placed)DONE
  2. Finish this post
  3. Clean the house
  4. Spend some time outside between rain showers
  5. Maybe go for a drive just for a change of scenery

On My Breakfast Plate

The usual, Chobani flip yogurt and coffee. Today was the last “normal” flavor, now I’m down to Cookies and Cream or S’mores (flavors I buy for J, not my favorites for breakfast)

On My Reading Pile

Working my way through Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series. Last week I read both The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played With Fire. And this week, I’ll continue reading (and most likely finish The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest. The second book was better, I thought, than the first. They certainly aren’t for everyone but I’m enjoying them.

TV Viewing

After being quite excited to find a movie corresponding to my book, I pulled it up on Amazon and….wait a minute. They’re speaking Swedish and that’s certainly not Daniel Craig! However, I stuck it out (with some help from “tech support” showing me how to add the subtitles) and enjoyed the film after all. As an added bonus, there are 3 Swedish films corresponding to each book So I watched the second film once I finished the second book.

I also watched Dirty Dancing on you-tube.  Glad no one ever had the garish thought to remake that 80’s classic. If they did and I missed it, don’t tell me. I wouldn’t want to watch it anyway.

On The Menu This Week

Ugh. A hard one. I opted not to go to the store yesterday as I’d decided we’d done awful at stretching out our trips. (Of course, I can not help my husband’s trips to get whatever he wants. And can’t be too upset as he got me quite the haul of M&M’s yesterday). Anyway, our meals this week are definitely coming from the freezer.

On a side note, we’ve both noticed less meat available each trip. Especially beef. I’m wondering if pork shall follow?

MONDAY:  Chicken Parmesan (already seasoned/breaded from grocery store), probably made into sandwiches (Lunch: Easy fried rice with ham and pineapple)

TUESDAY:  Fish sticks, baked potatoes, cornbread waffles (trying something new), and salad (Lunch: corn dogs, chips)

WEDNESDAY: Regular waffles, bacon (Lunch: burritos, dinner leftovers from last night)

THURSDAY: Hamburgers, French Fries (Lunch: pretzels with cheese)

FRIDAY:  Frozen pizza, salad (Lunch: popcorn chicken in air fryer)

And even though I’m planning lunches, most days the teenagers are hardly up to eat breakfast let alone lunch. I still like to have a plan just in case.

From The Camera

I’ll likely share this picture again on Saturday in my bird watching post. However, I was excited to spot and finally capture on camera this little bird pair! I’m fairly certain they’re yellow-rumped warblers.

Looking Around The House

It could definitely be cleaner.

Chore I’m Not Looking Forward To Today Or This Week

The floors.

To Relax This Week, I Will

Read my books, get outside and walk around the yard, pick up the camera

On My Prayer List

All those impacted, whether in big or small ways, by this virus. Prayers for peace, healing, and compassion for us all.

Quote For The Week

This actually just popped up on my Pinterest feed. Funny.

Probably because of my book choices combined with my quick glance at a Swedish newspapers. (It’s this weird quarantine obsession of mine, reading newspapers from other countries. Mainly because the television world news reports seem to be anything but that. Rest of the country?  Yes. Rest of the world? Good luck. Been a pet peeve of mine for a while). If you have a suggestion of a newspaper from another country, let me know.

End of rant/digression. Here’s the quote/thought:

Those who wish to sing, always find a song. (Swedish Proverb)

Oh, Jean! It cracks me up how much we stay on the same path! It’s hilarious!!! This week…you mentioned a swamp and so did I. I can’t wait for you to visit again! Next time I’ve got something really special to share with you. Read about the cypress swamp I discovered on today’s post. Amazing!!! If you get too restless, want to, and can grab your mask and come down for a day! We can get out on the prairie…at a distance from each other, of course…and enjoy the beauty of prairie in spring. Let me know if it’s even a possibility. Your menus look good and your bird shots are great! Love the warblers! They’re so pretty and sing so sweetly! Have a great week my friend and if you get bored, pop down! 🙂

I just read about your bald cypress tree swamp, very neat indeed! LOL, I must tell you that just yesterday my husband suggested I needed to go on a long drive maybe down to that prairie park and walk around 😉 No comment on whether I was being a bit cranky prior to said conversation. Maybe a little later in May near the end? Let it warm up just a tad more and maybe just maybe establish a dryer weather pattern and then, yes, I want to come down! Hope you have a great week!

Aha! Your husband must have a GREAT mind to think of an idea like that! (“Great minds think a like?” Get it??? LOL!) Anyway…THAT would be awesome! Just let me know when and we’ll make a day of it. Maybe the cafe in town will be opened back up by then and we can have lunch together before you leave or something. Am looking forward to it!!! We’re supposed to get wholluped with storms again this afternoon and evening. How about you?

Sounds like a great plan! I saw where some heavy thunderstorms went through down there, hopefully not too much damage. Just a bit of rain here and windy though not like they said. I think more wind/rain today but then, sunshine tomorrow finally.

Thank you! I figured I’d enjoy the movie even though it wasn’t the one I thought. Hope your Tuesday is off to a great start!

Oh my I’m LMBO at your movie experience! I’m glad you enjoyed it. 😀 And no, I can’t believe it’s the last week of April. I feel as if I’ve missed 2 entire months! So glad your weather is getting to where you can take some walks and enjoy the out doors! I based my menu off of cleaning out the freezer this week also and am hoping to get back to “normal” menu planning soon. We are going to see my SIL to help her for a couple weeks in late May and will get back to “normal” after we return. I hope you have a WONDERFUL week.

    Hello dearest Jean ❤️
It’s amazing isn’t it? How unmotivating all this time on our hands is. Lol I really thought I’d take this time to go crazy around here. But I feel motivated one day and the next I just want to watch shows and nap – besides all the daily cooking and cleaning I’m doing nowadays!
Your pics are lovely – such pretty birds. And I love your quote – so pretty and perfect with your pics Be safe once you start going out and about again. Have a blessed week ahead xoxo

Yes, I think maybe it’s because all this time wasn’t our choice. Dealing with all this emotionally (and then, add in the rest of the family) takes its toll on us, I think. Thanks! Hope you’re having a great week so far!
