It’s been a fairly slow bird-watching week here. I ran out of birdseed at the beginning of the week. And the birds flew off to fuller feeders. Or maybe they ate some insects instead. That would be nice!
However, we’ve been seeing hummingbirds at the hummingbird feeder. Getting a shot of a hummingbird is a bit of a challenge. While I’ve had lots of shouts of “There’s a hummingbird!”, not as much luck in them sticking around while I fumble for the camera.
I’ve been seeing a lot more doves lately. Usually, I only see the mourning doves who like to clean up under the feeders. However, a pair of Collared-doves also decided to hang out around the yard this week.
Did I mention it was kind of a slow week for birding around here?
I was a bit busier this week in addition to the empty feeders. Saw a lot of our yellow flamingo though.
Wait, what you’ve never seen a yellow flamingo?! Let me show you!
He likes to hang out here under the lemongrass pot. Oh, did you think I’d found an actual yellow flamingo? I guess I should have specified he’s of the plastic variety.
Just this afternoon, I did manage to spot our elusive ruby-throated hummingbird with camera in hand. Patience paid off as it took a tiny break on the fence.
Little Gray Cat aka My Assistant
And finally, one last photo just for fun.
My first try to capture this year’s hummingbird:
Do you see how it looks trapped in the feeder? Ha! Note: no birds were trapped in feeders nor harmed by the little gray cat in the making of this post.
Other birds spotted this week included robins, starlings, cardinals, grackles, the downy woodpeckers, a red-bellied woodpecker, a mockingbird (not at home), house finches and sparrows.
What birds did you spot this week?
