Happy Homemaker Monday, Hello, August!

We’ve made it to August! Not one to wish the year away over here but I’m glad to move forward in this one. How about you?

After a busy two weeks of (mostly) work, this one is shaping up to be a bit more low-key. J started band camp this morning and with all the changes, I’m pretty much home playing chauffeur for him for the next four days. Hoping it means I might get some cleaning and odd little projects completed around here.

Joining in with Sandra over at Diary Of A Stay At Home Mom for the weekly link up. Fun place full of friendly people if you’re looking for a great blog post way to start your week.

The Weather

Not typical for August at all. Thankfully, a dry week. And the temperatures are more fall than late summer. It’s currently 63 degrees at 8:45 in the morning. Highs in the mid-70’s to mid-80’s by the weekend. I do see some raindrop chances for the weekend. 60 percent on Friday, could go either way.

How I’m Feeling This Morning

A little tired and bit anxious about J being at band camp but I know he’ll likely be fine. And he’s doing what he loves.

On My Mind

How glad I am for election day tomorrow (A break from all the negative ads? Yes, please! Being on the state line means we get a double-dose of them each election cycle.) All the things I’d like to do this week.

On My To Do List

  1. Spend more time outside with my camera
  2. Laundry folding (another mountain of clean clothes erupted on the bed this morning!)
  3. Post on my blog every day this week
  4. Clean the house
  5. Sort out fridge, freezer, and pantry and then, a grocery store trip
  6. Have husband show me how to use the weed eater
  7. Mow back yard (probably going to delegate to one of my sons)
  8. Plan a bit for Christmas
  9. Tackle sorting through J’s clothes while he’s at band camp (get rid of old, see what he needs new)
  10. Make some freezer meals

List is a bit ambitious this week, if I accomplish half those things, I’ll be happy.

On My Breakfast Plate

Chobani Lemon Meringue flip yogurt , coffee, immune support vitamins.

On My Reading Pile

I’m between books. I’d like to read another one by Donna Ashcroft but the free kindle ones left are all Christmas themed and I might want to wait until Christmas for those. I’ll find something. Flipped through all the new August magazines over the weekend.

On My TV

Watched a fun one over the weekend: The Big Flower Fight on Netflix.  I loved it and really hope they do a season 2. It’s just a nice, happy show. A bit like the The Great British Bake-Off but you don’t get hungry watching it. And no idea why but my husband and I watched Shrek last night.

Of course, I’m probably going to return to the zombies (Fear the Walking Dead) as I fold laundry later.

On The Menu This Week

Pretty boring week. Trying to keep it simple and standard. Might change as I rifle through everything to get a better idea of what we do have. Sick of chicken so saving it for the weekend or next week.

MONDAY: Spaghetti *J has band camp 8:30-11:30*

TUESDAY: Pork chops, baked potatoes *J has band camp 12-3:30*

WEDNESDAY: Tacos, maybe…might change this one. *J has band camp 8:30-11:30*

THURSDAY: Fish/shrimp (frozen from box), fries, crunchy coleslaw or maybe cucumber salad *J has band camp 12-3:30*

FRIDAY: OUT or a fridge free for all

From The Camera

I went for an early morning walk at a local park on Saturday. I’ve sprinkled some images from my walk throughout this post.

Looking Around The House

Have I ever mentioned on Mondays that the house needs cleaned? Oddly enough, it needs cleaned again today!

On My Prayer List

J’s baritone tutor and his wife as they travel for the next two weeks, all the kids (and teachers) at band camp to stay safe this week, a peaceful election day, family, friends, strangers, and an end to this pandemic. Still want to see it mutate into a kindness pandemic instead.

Quote For The Week

August is like the Sunday of summer. (unknown)

How are you going to spend your first week of August?

Thank you! I’ll be happy with about half the list though I did get the freezer/fridge cleared out this morning. Just the deep freeze left. That item had been on there for a while so happy to get some of that sorted. Hope your week is going well so far.

Yesterday’s cooler weather might have made me a bit ambitious. Still managed to get a bit done this morning but our heat is returning though I won’t complain as I rather enjoy the heat. Happy Tuesday!

I have never made these kinds of lists! Since I retired my actual activity is pretty similar most days, almost always involving a walk, birding, and the pursuit of nature in general. That’s where the variety creeps in because you never know what you will see, and every day is exciting.

Thank you. I’m not sure if the show is starting back up or not. I’ve just started watching it on Hulu. Hope your week is off to a wonderful start!

Pretty images, love the lake view and flowers. My largest list is my reading list, I have so many books I would like to read.. The list just keeps growing. Take care and enjoy your day!

Thank you! I also have a long list of books I’d like to read though with the pandemic I find myself drawn to lighter reads, nothing too heavy or serious. Hope your week is going great so far!

Enjoyed this post and love the pics…especially the one of the little wooden dock! What park were you visiting? I am praying protection over J and peace of mind over you while he is away. Blessings for a beautiful week ahead (even though I’m running late and we’re half way through it already)! LOL! 🙂

Thank you! His band camp has been going really well, it’s all alternating half-days as the entire band still can’t all be there at the same time. Not sure how that’s going to work when schools starts in just a few weeks, don’t envy the teachers dealing with that logistical headache. The pictures are from Waterfall Park, it’s the park behind Bass Pro Shop. No waterfall pictures because they currently have it turned off. Guess they think it would be too much of a gathering spot?

I hear you. It’s a mess any way you go for sure! Glad camp is going well for him. There was no Bass Pro when we left the area, but I do remember seeing one when passing through one time. Is that over there off I-70 near Independence Center? It looks lovely! And, yes! A waterfall running would definitely be a crowd pleaser!

Yes, that’s the one. I think it’s been there maybe slightly under 10 years now? Maybe longer. I know my oldest was still in elementary school when it went in over there. A really nice natural playground on one side complete with climbing rock that used to scare me when the kids tackled it. And a standard playground with all the slides and such on the other. (Now all roped off due to Corona). Worth checking out the next time your in the area and I’m sure your grandchildren would love the playground whenever it opens again.
