Were you reading the synopsis of our first snow day and thinking: Where’s the hot chocolate? What did they do outside with all that snow? I want to see MORE pictures of that white stuff! Her snow days aren’t very organized!
I was thinking a few of those same things on Wednesday except the part of wanting to see more of the white stuff! First, I did offer the boys hot chocolate on more than one occasion and they declined. I guess hot chocolate is more of a December snow kind of drink around here. We did go outside twice yesterday and here is what we did with some of that snow the first time we went out there:

Snowmen on the porch railing and the start of igloo “we” decided to make. All the moms out there know who “we” is when the kids say let’s make an igloo, right?

I scooped some snow off our back deck after inspecting it closely for any shadings of “yellow” to make snow ice cream as a dessert after lunch.
Here is a behind the scenes look at the bathroom after playing in the snow. Realize this happens EVERY time we must don snow-suits (actually, I wore heavy winter pajamas out as I don’t own any snow-pants), boots, coats, and gloves…

This is what it looks like after I pick up all the wet clothes and hang up the coats/snow-suits to dry.
I did catch a glimpse of some birds in the snow and for once, managed to grab my camera before they all flew away. Here are a few “pretty” pictures of all that snow:
After a lunch of frozen pizza and a dessert of snow ice cream which none of us really liked and so we ate chocolate bars and marshmallows instead (I think I’m the only one who prepared a proper s’more), we went back to our screens for a couple of hours before returning outside to finish “our” igloo. The boys went sledding down our slight hill in front while I worked diligently on “our” construction project.

Pride comes before a fall(en) igloo. The front fell in when I was trying to add the door and then, the temptation to destroy was too great for a certain 8-year-old.

The aftermath…I suppose I deserved it since I was (not that I’m competitive or anything) trying to outdo our neighbor’s igloo. Hers is still standing, I think she wins.
Last night snowplows came instead of phone calls so everyone is back to school and work today so no worries about trying to organize more snow days. Actually, you may have noticed my snow days are not very organized. I can’t say I don’t try to organize them. I did print math worksheets off the computer that were given a brief glance. I didn’t worry about it since I figured there was a math lesson somewhere in my igloo building project. I do try to prepare for snow days like I talked about in this post but I also try not to lose sight of the fact that snow days are a break from the routine and just meant to be enjoyed.
The main thing I remember on snow days is this: I miss summer!
Do you live in an area of snow days and do you like them? How do you approach them?

Did you tell them it’s blasphemy not to accept hot chocolate?! That’s a really cool igloo/fort. That had to be just awesome for the kids! Loving the pictures…. and who DOES have snow days organized? I thought the definition of snow days WAS disorganization

No, I didn’t. Actually, I was kind of glad to not have to mess with making the hot chocolate. Thanks, I keep thinking I’ll get out there and rebuild but haven’t quite managed to get around to it. Oh, I like that definition of snow days!

Hi, Jean. Are you as sick of snow as we are? David said there’s about 16″ in the yard. They plowed our street Wednesday afternoon but we still haven’t had any trash pickup. Yesterday a friend got her car stuck in the driveway because of the mound of snow at the end. I woke up this morning and saw flurries and nearly had a panic attack. I ready for spring!!!

Yes! I couldn’t believe it was snowing again yesterday. I’m so glad it didn’t stick. I can empathize with your friend a bit because I backed into one of those mounds getting out of our driveway yesterday (thankfully, I did not get stuck). We finally had trash pick up yesterday. A call came from our company and said to sit it out and all would be picked up by Saturday. I was very relieved since we somehow managed to miss trash day the previous week. I’m going with the March motto of “in like a lion, out like a lamb” to take the snow yesterday as a sign of a great (and warm!) spring

Hi Jean! That looks so fun! I don’t think snow days need to be organized – just have fun! I love your igloo. Any igloo-building tips? I want to try it if we get some good snow – which we might this week!

Oh, if you want snow, I hope you get some. Considering my igloo caved in on us…I don’t know that you want my tips
We just used a bucket (my mop bucket actually) to make the bricks. My idea was to make a circle and then just keep going up with the bricks closer together until there was the appearance of a roof. I’d advise not trying to make a giant igloo (one of my mistakes!). I also think you need to build the door into the structure somehow but I have no idea. If it doesn’t snow for you, we still have plenty left around here that you can have!

Cool Igloo!
I don’t mind snow days if they fall during the week, but if it’s a Monday I’m very dismayed here. I like MY time on Mondays
I always wondered what other people’s houses looked like after playing in the snow. I soooo want a MUD room
Jean
Thanks. Oh yes, it was a BLISSFULLY quiet Monday around here. Does my house look about like yours after the outdoor snow play? A MUD room would be nice.
