This is actually the first full week of school for my boys and we started it off in style with my oldest missing his bus this morning. Nothing says Monday like a missed bus, waking up a grouchy 7 year old who complains about his lost morning playtime to the point he about loses all his playtime EVER. Sigh. Someone pass me some coffee. I did pass a Starbucks on the road this morning but didn’t have time to stop. However, this post isn’t about my manic Monday ramblings but about my meal plan for the week. I’m going to try something new by adding in lunch plans both for the boys (they take their lunch every day and by the end of last year, we were in quite the rut with their cold lunches) and myself (I do not do a good job of eating lunch when it’s just me in the house. I do a great job of eating junk later in the day though! I must stop that habit.). My husband is on his own with lunch as he prefers to do his own thing. Here’s our lunch and dinner plan for the week:
Monday
Dinner: BLT sandwiches and French fries
Lunches: G: celery/peanut butter, string cheese, strawberries, yogurt, and graham cracker-frosting sandwich with juice, J: peanut butter sandwich, Doritos, strawberries, graham cracker frosting sandwich with juice box, my lunch: Tomato Basil soup with pepper jack string cheese
Tuesday (I have a 5:30 pm. Meeting)
Dinner: Tacos (I’ll prepare the filling ahead of time)
Lunches: G: ham sandwich, chips, strawberries, yogurt, rice crispy treat, J: ham, crackers, strawberries, yogurt, and rice crispy treat, my lunch: Baked potato with toppings
Wednesday
Dinner: Pork Chops (carried over from last week), baked potatoes, and salad
Lunches: G: ham, crackers, string cheese, watermelon, yogurt, and rice crispy treat, J: ham, crackers, string cheese, crackers, watermelon, yogurt, and rice crispy treat, my lunch: nachos using the left over taco meat
Thursday (5p.m. open house at the Middle School)
Dinner: Hot dogs at the Middle School Open house (left over tacos for J who doesn’t like hot dogs)
Lunches: same lunch for all of us: peanut butter sandwich, chips, yogurt, apple slices, and rice crispy treat
Friday
Dinner: Homemade chicken strips and French fries
Lunches: G: French toast sticks and peanut butter, apple slices, and yogurt, J: salami, string cheese, crackers, olives, yogurt, and Jello, my lunch: I’m hoping to eat lunch OUT but if not, I’ll have a baked potato again.

Clearly, I need help with the lunch menu planning. If you have children, what is their favorite cold lunch? If not, what’s your favorite lunch?

My two oldest don’t like your typical PB and J lunches. My oldest likes turkey and cheese and my 5 year old likes “salad” sandwiches which is just bread and lettuce. He will eat cheese but not IN the sandwich.

Interesting! I don’t think either of mine would go for a salad sandwhich but who knows…

I do a lot of thermos lunches for my school aged child. He’s not a fan of sandwiches, cheese, or yogurt so it can be tricky and frustrating. Can’t even imagine how it will be when all of my kids are in school!

My youngest isn’t a huge sandwich fan either but he gets them anyway sometimes! I may have to check into a thermos for him. Thanks for the idea!

i send my kids to school with leftovers. today was a single leftover grilled chicken breast pulled from the freezer and cut into strips. i added some cheese and crackers and fruit. done.
i made myself a plate of hummus and veggies, plus a snack of apple and cheese to eat in the carpool line. i’m trying to do better!

That all sounds delicious!

Jenna’s favorite ‘cold’ lunch is actually anything in a thermos – pasta with cheese, rice with cheese, leftover casserole, soup, mashed potatoes with cheese, macaroni with cheese – lots of cheese ;0)
Josie’s favorite lunch is words – as in talking. She doesn’t eat much – I go for calories, and she finishes up her lunch at home for snack.
Both girls like the flair of tortilla – so for Jenna – tortilla (small one) turkey breast meat, string cheese, roll up, slice into four sections, put tooth picks, and container it.
Josie likes tortilla with peanut butter, then sliced, toothpicked.

I haven’t tried the tortilla idea on them in a while. Maybe we’ll do that. My older one bought his lunch at school today! I’m waiting to see how THAT went.
