Happy Homemaker Monday, Waiting For A Slower Week

Last week went by in one of those busy blurs. Not sure what I did exactly outside of working and not blogging but it felt busy!

This week is probably going to be another busy one but then, it’s spring break for us!

Glad to have a plan for these busy weeks thanks to the Happy Homemaker Monday link-up hosted by Sandra over at Diary Of A Stay At Home Mom. Be sure and check it out!

On to the categories…

Breakfast Time…What Is On The Plate This Morning

After a sugar-filled weekend (oops), back to my eating better sugar-free until April 1 attempt.  Scrambled egg with bacon bit and toast with butter. And of course, coffee.

*J and I did walk to McDonald’s for our traditional Shamrock Shakes so that had to cancel out a little bit of the sugar, I hope!

On My To-Do List

  1. Haircut this morning
  2. Finish and publish this post, after haircut
  3. Parent teacher conferences at both boys’ schools
  4. Bunco
  5. Make Easter Brunch Menu
  6. Make Housecleaning Plans
  7. See what the boys want to do on their spring break (besides stay home and sleep late)
  8. Pay bills
  9. Usual clean out fridge, grocery store, stuff
  10. Still need to return library books instead of simply renewing them

Currently Reading

The Sentient Machine: The Coming Age Of Artificial Intelligence by Amir Husain. It’s nonfiction. Interesting so far although I’m only on page 32. Also, still working my way through the March magazines.

On The TV Today

I confess to spending part of my busy week/weekend watching the entirety of Jessica Jones, season 2. Definitely thought season 2 was as good as the first one.

Now, I’ll probably only watch The Voice tonight and spend most of this week doing other non-TV things.

The Weather Outside Is

Not this: We had a great weather day last Thursday, a sit on the porch and enjoy it kind of day! I did, too, although I had very limited time.

Today’s weather is more like this:

We do need the rain though so not too much complaining about it over here. Cold (low 40s) as well. We don’t need the cold. Supposed to be partly sunny and warmer for our spring weather by the end of the week.

On The Menu This Week

No idea. Let’s recap how last week went first:

Monday: Tacos, rice We had hamburgers *I worked 1-5*

Tuesday: Chicken legs, twice baked potatoes We had the tacos and rice from Monday’s plan

Wednesday: Slow Cooker Mongolian Beef We had the chicken legs with baked sweet potatoes *I worked 9-noon*

Thursday: We had Subway *I worked 8-4:15* *G had a band concert*

Friday: leftovers or shrimp with baked sweet potatoes We had grocery store Chinese take-out and J had taco bell (he went to an event at a local game store with a friend) *I worked 8-4:15*

Saturday: I had training until 3, J and I walked to get our Shamrock shakes, and then, we ended up just ordering a pizza.

Sunday: We had left-overs.

The plan for this week:

MONDAY: Spaghetti and meatballs, salad *I have parent teacher conferences at the middle school*

TUESDAY: Roast in the crock pot *I have parent teacher conferences at the high school* *Bunco night as well*

WEDNESDAY: Bacon Wrapped Chicken, Baked potatoes

THURSDAY: ham steaks, mac and cheese, salad, cornbread

FRIDAY: OUT to celebrate start of spring break for boys

If I Have A Few Minutes To Myself I Will

Either pick up the camera or work on this blog a bit.

What I’m Knitting, Sewing, Or Creating

It’s plan for Easter brunch time! I’ll be spending my time reading my past posts about it and getting new ideas from my Pinterest board: Easter Brunch Ideas.

New Recipe I Tried Or Want To Try This Week

I tried 2 new recipes last week! My success rate with them is 0-2. Ha!

The spinach muffins were such a disaster I threw them away.  I wonder if the sugar recipe would have worked better but too late now. Spinach is going to stick to being a savory food item for me.

The second recipe I tried went the other direction on the health spectrum. I made Bottom Of The Cereal Box cookies.

They were okay to me. Kind of sweet/salty thing. The sugar cookie mix had a funky/bad aftertaste according to both J and my husband though. J thought it I made a chocolate chip cookie dough base and then added the cereal it might work better. The cereals I used for these: cookie crisp and St. Patrick’s Day edition Lucky Charms.

Quote For The Week

Just saw this on a church bulletin board as I was driving home from my hair appointment:

Don’t let your past steal your future.

Happy Homemaker Monday, Happy November

Did you enjoy your extra hour of sleep over the weekend? We had a cool, cloudy day Sunday so perfect for a little extra sleeping.

It’s even cooler this morning.  I can’t even explain how happy it makes me to know it will be light out when I get up in the mornings now.  Judging from Internet land, I must be in the rare 1 percent of the population who prefers standard time.

Now that I have coffee in hand, it’s time to plan my week.  Remember when I said last week was not so busy?  And then, life laughed at me.  Time to try again.

Glad to be linking up to the Happy Homemaker Monday post hosted by Sandra over at Diary Of A Stay At Home Mom.  Go check it out!

Breakfast Time: What Is On The Plate This Morning

So far just coffee and my stomach is starting to complain about it a bit.  Later, I plan on cooking cinnamon rolls (from a tube) and frying up some bacon.  I may go ahead and eat my last yogurt first, Tropical Escape.  Oh, how I could use one about right now!

Right Now I Am

Waiting for J’s friends to wake up so I can make breakfast (and stop tip-toeing around).  Also, trying to consume enough coffee to properly be awake. We celebrated J’s birthday with his friends a bit early this month by letting him have some friends stay over.  By the way, Daylight Savings has no effect on the time tween and teenage boys go to bed during an overnight.

The Weather Outside

Cold! 31 degrees and now cloudy, I know I saw a bit of blue earlier this morning.  Supposed to have a high of a balmy 46 degrees today. It was in the 60s on Friday, typical Midwest weather.

Looking Around The House

G had friends stay over Friday and Saturday, three of J’s friends spent the night last night (no school today for teacher work day) so…let’s skip this part.

On Today’s To-Do List

  1. Finish This Post
  2. Finish my book due back to the library tomorrow (it’s new so no renewal option)
  4. Plan out some blog posts
  5. Clean out fridge before trash day tomorrow (been neglecting it for a couple of weeks)

Currently Reading

The Four Tendencies by Gretchen Rubin.  Interesting theories.  The quiz I took (in the book) said I was pretty evenly split between being the Obliger (5 points) and the Questioner (4 points) with a tiny bit of Rebel (2) thrown in for good measure. Except, of course, my main tendencies don’t overlap according to her chart.  Not really surprised to find myself in some void category.

And the on-line version just pegged me as a full Rebel.  Now, I’m really confused. Better finish the book I guess.

Finished up The 6th Extinction by James Rollins and loved it. Really interesting theories in this one.  Hoping there might still be some books by this author I haven’t read on the library shelves.

On The TV Today

No idea.  Probably nothing requiring any concentration.  Maybe I’ll finish re-watching season 4 (random) of Doctor Who while folding laundry.  Or maybe The Bourne Supremacy since I watched The Bourne Identity (Yes, again. Favorite movies are favorite movies.) on Saturday afternoon.

On The Menu This Week

My goal this week is to somehow get us back to eating a little healthier.  Halloween followed by birthday party (even small gatherings require cake) followed by Thanksgiving coming soon…I need to get a handle on things.

Of course, the complete derailment from the menu plan last week also means lots of carry over items this week.

MONDAY: Rotisserie Chicken, Salad

TUESDAY: Ribs in crock pot (not an ideal cold weather meal but I’d like my freezer space back) *I have a 4p.m. hair appointment*

WEDNESDAY: Chicken legs, potatoes *I work 8 to 4*

THURSDAY: Fazolis for school fundraiser *I work 8 to 5*

FRIDAY: No idea, probably leftovers (J wanted tacos last night so I may freeze those leftovers as option) *Possibly out for family birthday but I haven’t heard any plans yet*

New Recipe I Tried Or Want To Try

I’ve saved this Ham and Cheese Crescent Bake (Yes, I know not healthy) to my Something Different for Dinner Board on Pinterest.  Looks like a perfect dinner for the boys and I one night while my husband is off hunting.

One Of My Simple Pleasures

Playing around with my camera although I’ve noticed I much prefer to be in the moment when stuff is happening so rarely take photos of people.

Favorite Photo From The Internet Or Camera

Trouble narrowing it down this week so I have four to share!  Two in honor of the time change and two from the birthday fun.

Beautiful sky on Monday morning, now I’ll be up in time every day to enjoy more of them!

Sleepy kitty…

J wanted to do laser tag for his birthday

Breakfast is almost ready.

Praying For

The world to be a kinder, gentler place.

What’s going on in your corner of the world on this first full week in November?

Happy Homemaker Monday, A New Not So Busy Week

Even with Halloween thrown in there (we have no plans), our week is noticeably less busy than the previous ones.  Still need to plan out the week.

Joining in, as always, with Sandra over at Diary Of A Stay At Home Mom for the Happy Homemaker Monday link-up.  Don’t forget to go visit her and the other bloggers.

Breakfast Time, What Is On The Plate This Morning

Pumpkin spice oatmeal and coffee.

Right Now I Am

Eating breakfast while working on this post. Also, listening to J in the next room (he stayed home sick today) and the cat complain about being inside (she came in not five minutes ago at her own request).

The Weather Outside

It’s cloudy, windy, 48 degrees, and looks like rain although none is forecast.  Good weather for the Chiefs and chili later.  They’re calling for a cold Halloween as well. Rest of the week shows fairly mild with it warming back up for the weekend with a high of 75 predicted for Sunday.

Looking Around The House

I see lots of things needing attention and a good cleaning.  I’m thinking I need to find a good month-long cleaning project or checklist for the month of November and focus on getting the house completely (okay, presentable at least) by December 1.

On Today’s To-Do List

Didn’t really expect J to stay home so my plan is a little off today.

  1. Work 1:30-3:45 (just covering so a teacher can go to an appointment)
  2. Clean the bathrooms, they’re gross bordering on disgusting
  3. Pay bills
  4. Grocery store & Target run will have to wait until tomorrow
  5. Gather clothing and items for charity truck coming on Friday
  6. Finish (YAY!) up blog posts in 31 Days Series

Currently Reading

I picked up two library books last week but I’ve yet to start them.  This week I actually feel well enough (no pounding congestion headache) and should have time to read! On my book pile:

  • The Four Tendencies by Gretchen Rubin
  • The 6th Extinction, A Sigma Force Novel by James Rollins
  • Not books but I also have an overflowing pile of October magazines to read and recycle

On The TV Today

With J home, I doubt I’ll have it on much unless he’s watching something.  G has me watching a Netflix series called The Magicians which is kind of intriguing (definitely a show for older teens!).  I may catch up on it later tonight or tomorrow. Has a bit of a Harry Potter, “the college years”, vibe to it but it’s intriguing enough on its own.

It’s based on a set of books by Lev Grossman, so adding those books to the want to read list.  Or maybe I’ll give them to G for Christmas and then, just borrow them to read myself.

Oh, I almost forgot, The Kansas City Chiefs will, of course, be on the TV tonight.

On The Menu This Week

Maybe now that things are slowing down a bit, I’ll be able to follow my menu plans a bit better.  Maybe.

MONDAY:  Chili *I work 1:30-3:45*

TUESDAY: Happy Halloween!  I feel like I should have some Halloween inspired meal but I’m coming up blank at the moment.   Maybe a snack type dinner (this means hot dogs for the boys and left-over chili for my husband in addition to whatever I’d put out there…) or Taco Soup (leaning toward that)

WEDNESDAY: Chicken legs, potatoes, salad

THURSDAY: Ribs in crock pot (carry over from last week)

FRIDAY:  BLT salad, baked potatoes or possibly OUT  *I work 1:30-3:45*

New Recipe I Tried Or Want To Try

Last Wednesday, I helped G make this Guatemalan Banana Bread for his Spanish class fiesta.

The boys really liked it (and it was a hit in his class as well, he only brought one small slice home).  It’s quite a bit lighter than the traditional recipe I use.  Also, quite a bit easier to make.

One Of My Simple Pleasures

Reading, something I haven’t been doing nearly enough lately.

At the moment, patience!

Can you believe this is the end of October?  What do you have planned for the week?

Happy Homemaker Monday, Sick And Busy

I’m sick and it’s another busy week around here.  Starting to think all our weeks are sort of busy but I know it will taper off closer to the holidays.  I hope so anyway!

My sickness isn’t anything serious, just one of those annoying head colds with a cough.  Might mean I’m a bit grouchy but I’m still standing.  Here’s your 80s throwback for today:

While I have a bit of energy, I’m using a bit of it to plan my week.  Don’t forget to visit our host, Sandra, over at Diary Of A Stay At Home Mom.

And on with the week…

Breakfast Time, What Is On The Plate This Morning

Oatmeal, not pumpkin spice flavor.  I went with the apples and cinnamon flavor today.  And coffee.  Of course, coffee.

Right Now I Am

Working on this post, drinking some more coffee, and listening to the dishwasher serenade a quiet house.

Looking Around The House

Living room is not too bad, kitchen and our bedroom both need attention as do the bathrooms.  G cleaned his room over the weekend!

On Today’s To-Do List

  1. Go to grocery store
  2.  Parent-teacher conferences for both kids (must do this today as I work the rest of the week)
  3. Target maybe…
  4. Work on 31 Days blog series
  5. Take a nap??

Currently Reading

Haven’t felt like reading with this head cold.  Glanced at a few magazines.

On The TV Today

Not sure I’m even going to turn it on today.  My husband will probably watch The Voice later.

The Weather Outside Is

Sunny and slightly cool.  Highs are supposed to be in the mid-sixties. Thursday into Friday, we are supposed to get our first frost!

On The Menu This Week

With the exception of today, I work until 6 every night this week so I’ll be planning lots of crock pot menus so they’ll at least be something ready for the boys at dinner time.  And of course, they’ll be a few repeats from last week as we didn’t really follow the plan at all last week.

MONDAY: Ham steaks, potatoes, dinner rolls *I have parent teacher conferences at the boys’ schools in the late afternoon and early evening*

TUESDAY: Ribs in crock pot *G has early morning band practice* *I work 4-6*

WEDNESDAY: No idea, chicken in some form or perhaps spaghetti *G has early morning band practice, last one!!!* *I work 4-6*

THURSDAY:  Tacos (I plan to just have the meat warming in the crock pot) *G has evening band practice* *I work 4-6*

FRIDAY: OUT!! *The boys don’t have school* *I work 4-6*

New Recipe I Tried Or Want To Try

Still dealing with a burnt finger from my candy apple mess.

Praying For

Peace.  Also, that no one else in this house gets sick and that it stays just a cold and doesn’t turn into anything worse like bronchitis.  Good health for all friends and family.

What do you have planned for the week ahead?

Happy Homemaker Monday, Another Busy October Week

Sometimes these busy fall weeks just sneak up on me.  Like the upcoming one.  Monday night is free as is our entire Friday.  That’s it though!

And that’s why I’m putting together my Happy Homemaker Monday post on a Sunday afternoon when I should be doing so many other things. I’ll be glad I took the time to do it I know. Amended to say: get started as I’m finishing on Monday night.

As always, I’m linking up with our host, Sandra over at Diary Of A Stay At Home Mom. So thankful she does this each week to inspire us to be thoughtful about our weeks.

Breakfast Time, What Is On The Plate This Morning

J made chocolate chip muffins! Then a bit later, I had some pumpkin yogurt as I felt the need for a bit more protein.  It will be probably be yogurt again on Monday morning as I work unless I wake up in time to make scrambled eggs.

Right Now I Am

Working on this blog post and trying to decide if I want to go the store before, after, or possibly during the Chiefs game.  I would like to go when it’s less crowded which probably means during the game (I’m sure they’ll have it on the overhead speakers so we can listen). UPDATE: I went to during the game and can I just say “stupid Steelers!” Ugh. Good thing they are my 2nd favorite team.

Looking Around The House

It really hasn’t changed much since last Monday! Another layer of dirt, perhaps?

On Today’s To-Do List

  1. Go to grocery store
  2. Make sure we have clean laundry for tomorrow (don’t forget PE clothes for J!)
  3. Go over weekly calendar just to make sure I haven’t forgotten anything
  4. Figure out some new lunchbox ideas for the boys

Currently Reading

Really need to get on this one! I did download The Box Under The Bed so I could read the story included from Carrie Ann Alexis (one of our Happy Homemaker Monday fellow bloggers).  I read it and loved it! Now to decide if this chicken is brave enough for the rest of the stories in the collection.

On The TV Today

We watched some of The Voice and we’ll probably watch whatever is on after that.

The Weather Outside Is

too dark to tell now. It was a beautiful and sunny fall day though.  A bit chilly to start but just warm enough by the afternoon.  I think the whole week is supposed to be a repeat of that.

On The Menu This Week

MONDAY: We had pork chops, potatoes, and salad *I worked 8:15-3:45*

TUESDAY: Maybe French Toast, Bacon *G has early morning band practice* *I have Bunco*

WEDNESDAY: Chicken legs *G has early morning band practice* *We have a meeting at the middle school about J possibly taking the ACT this school year (7th grade) for some program thing*

THURSDAY: Ham steak and sweet potatoes or out depending on the timing of the day *Both boys have doctor’s appointments* *G has evening band practice*

FRIDAY: Ribs in the crock pot

If I Have A Few Minutes To Myself, I Will

REST! I have the same dry cough, it might be allergies or I might be coming down with something stuff that I get every year at this time.

New Recipe I Tried Or Want To Try This Week

Unfortunately, the chicken manicotti from last week was not a big hit.  It needed a lot more sauce, I thought.  Candy apples are on the agenda for this week or weekend (I think I finally have all the supplies).

One Of My Simple Pleasures

Fuzzy socks.

Favorite Photo From The Camera Or Internet

They cut G’s band competition short on Saturday because this storm was rolling into town.  They skipped the finals portion but it was okay because our high school won best overall visual, 1st in their division, and placed 2nd over all based on the preliminary scores.  Not too shabby!

Storm rolling in on Saturday afternoon

Praying For

Good health for family and friends as well as peace for all.
